The dns only server is a good idea if you want to alleviate the dns load from the main servers. If you have so many zones, that may be the better way to go.

Since we are using your services for a number of the servers (and we will add more as we convert them to cpanel

I guess we are on safe ground should we choose to use a couple of the cpanel servers as nameservers
Regarding the API, I was referring to the standard cpanel api.
Sounds as it can be a good idea. Still not sure about what we would benefit on using the cluster function. 3000 domains with reasonably long ttl doesnt generate too much traffic as far as I can see.
