* buying external dns service,
* setting up new servers
* or - if possible - use cpanel server for this.

We have approx 3000 active dns records. All our accounts use the same name servers regardless if they are on cpanel servers or other servers.

So my questions are:
1) Is it possible to use 2 existing cpanel servers as primary and secondary for this (we have some servers with very little load that can be used if it is not a stupid thing to mix accounts and nameserver on same server). We would then use standard API to set up and change dns records.

2) What are the benefits of installing "dns only" and is that a solutin we could use? We would then need two dedicated servers as I understand it, but the Clustering part, I don't really see how it would work and what the benefits would be for us when we have 50% of accounts on servers that are not cpanel?

Any input would be appreciated
What you could do is use one server for cPanel/WHM hosting and for adding/removing custom DNS records then use cPanel DNS Only on the second nameserver to just sync the records among the 2 servers.
