Lightbulb cPanel Releases EasyApache 3.8.2 with Support for mod_ruid2

The latest release of EasyApache includes improvements to several third-party libraries and utilities.

Updates to EasyApache 3.8.2 include support for modruid2 version 0.9.4. The mod_ruid2 module is a suexec module for Apache 2.0 that provides performance similar that of mod_php with the security of suphp. This module allows PHP applications to run as the user, instead of as the user nobody in a manner similar to suphp. However, mod_ruid2 is incompatible with some EasyApache modules, such as FastCGI, mod_cache, mod_disk_cache, mod_mem_cache, and ModMono. While mod_ruid2 may be ideal for many environments, cPanel recommends testing and verification that it is appropriate for your configuration. Generally, mod_ruid2 is not considered to be production-worthy.

Easy Apache was updated from 3.8.2 to 3.8.3 on the same day this news was originally posted on the cPanel news page. The news of including modruid2 in Easy Apache is valid. (And, since the original news post, improved upon.)

The news about mod_ruid2 was very interesting - but I can't see it listed as an option when running easyapache (on any of myservers). Do you have any idea why not?

Checking 2 servers, 1 running EDGE tier, the other CURRENT, this shows up on the EDGE server in EA3 profile building, but not the CURRENT tier server.

To quote my colleague cPanelDavidG on this:

EasyApache itself is not different, but version dependent features are.
    HTH!

Oh very interesting. Kudos to cpanel for not resting on mod_php

So like mod_php it's still compiled into the apache binary for best performance in a mostly php environment?

Does anyone have experience with how mod_ruid2 will react to an existing environment where users already have directories that are chmod 777 and owned by "nobody" ? ie. a wordpress environment as we have several on our server

Do they have to be changed back to user ownership before they will be writable again? Or can "nobody" still be written to?

I assume open_basedir still works correctly and should not be affected by this kind of change.
