Any votes yet for the free version of Zimbra in cPanel's webmail offerings?
It's my favorite webmail program -- use it at work -- and would love to be able to offer it to my clients.
Thanks,
Roger Brown

From my experience Zimbra is a huge resource eater
Brinkster hosting company managed to integrate Zimbra along with their
hosting offerings. It would be great if Cpanel could provide tools that
could allow us -hosters- do the same. Cheap or not it would be an interesting
competitive edge I would consider to invest in.
A webmail-only server could be an option (just as DNS server does)
4PSA has just launched a Open Xchange addon for Plesk

I still believe that Zimbra (and even Scalix) provide a more organized interface.
So there is still room for a new offering. Hope Cpanel can arrange a partnership with the either Zimba or Scalix guys and provide a solution too.
Zarafa is also an option

How are both of those related to or applicable to the feature request of adding Zimbra as a webmail application?
Are you intending to suggest other webmail applications? If yes; each of these should be in a separate thread so there is one unique feature request per thread.
Please clarify and elaborate further.

What I am trying to suggest is an additional module that provide an enhanced webmail experience.
Something that could allow me to get an edge over the others CPanel Hosting providers in my region.
Zarafa, as well as Zimbra, Scalix and Open-Xchange are products of a new
product category called MS Exchange replacement.
These days most users still use MS Outlook as their email client and their
seem to love its interface. That is another feature of the above products,
a MS Outlook-like interface.
Unfortunately and even with the advances of Horde it still has the same interface of 8/10 years ago and it is the same case of Squirrelmail. Roundcube is probably the best of the current alternatives, but for some reason my users don't use it.
Probably because it was introduced after they got used with either Horde and Squirrelmail. Will I need to push them?
But what I am suggesting is an option for powerusers.
Why an additional module/server product instead of integrating it in the main product?
4PSA guys thought on it first for Plesk, there may be a reason for that.
I believe it is the easiest way to ensure a revenue stream.
Which of the products above mentioned would be the best next-generation webmail?
Zimbra is probably the product with the most media coverage, however its installers require their own versions MTA and antivirus, the same applies to Scalix and Open-Xchange.
That is not the case of Zarafa, that seems to be more integrate-able, so Zarafa couldbe the option. Its interface is the one who looks more like Outlook. Another feature is that their spanish translation is VERY good.
Thank you for the clarification; it is greatly appreciated.
I have split the feature request for Zafara into a new dedicated forums thread: Zafara - Webmail Application - cPanel Forums
Please use the new thread for continued discussion regarding the feature request of Zafara as a webmail application. For future reference, please limit feature requests to one per thread to prevent confusion and off-topic clutter; this will help greatly to ensure ease of reading, understanding and better organization of information and feedback posted by users that is expected to be regarding a specific feature addition or enhancement and not multiple or combined requests. When submitting feature requests please keep in mind proper forum etiquette taking into account posted guidelines as seen below:
- Recommendations for posting to the Feature Requests forums - cPanel Forums
- Forum Best Practices, Rules and Guidelines - cPanel Forums
Thank you for your understanding.

I like Zimbra too... I wouldn't mind seeing it considered for inclusion.
While additional options are great, I have to say that a big problem with integrated webmail options is that everyone wants a different one added.
Why not just suggest to the makers of Fantastico and other "one click installers" that they add webmail application choices so that any cPanel user can just install their preferred client via the installer interface?

I too like Zimbra , it has the feature based on rich Ajax-Based Web Calendar and we can share full calendar and delegated acccess by using familiar Sharing UI.
zimbra as webmail solution would be great
The ability to have custom webmail applications is now in all update tiers of cPanel&WHM.
However, custom mail servers are not yet supported. From what I see on Zimbra - Compare Products - Zimbra isn't merely webmail, but also a complete mail solution requiring use of their mail server software.
As a result, I am considering the "Custom Webmail" portion of this request complete, but re-purposing this thread specifically for Zimbra as it is not just a custom webmail application.
To those of you looking to implement Zimbra, are you looking to install Zimbra remotely or on the same server as cPanel&WHM?
