    Default Backup Plans

I'd like to have a backup config similar to FEATURES list, where admins can assign what features will the account have.

By using this feature, we could select what accounts to backup regularly (just like now) and what accounts have lower/higher priority and should be backed up more/less frequently.

    For example:

    default: every 2 days

If we create a new list and add 3 accounts into it that have a very high priority, those three accounts could be backed up every 24 hours instead (as set by admin).

    Benefits:

As some servers have hundreds of accounts with scheduled backups to run every 7 days or so (otherwise sites would be slow most of the time), admins could protect important clients data from the potential HDD crash more efficiently by backing them up every x days instead.

Would the feature request at http://forums.cpanel.net/f145/per-us...tml#post770442 be sufficient for your needs? If not, please elaborate.

Not entirely, a list similar to "features" would allow to exclude any accounts I want while your provided link appears to be indicating that ALL accounts will be backed up if they have an expensive package.

Why is this the issue? $1 packages don't consume the resources during the backup while $50 packages that use 5 GB of the disk space do.

The feature request I linked to is so that you can set up $1 packages to be backed up on just, perhaps, a monthly basis while your $50 packages are backed up daily. In addition to packages, individual users could be exempted from daily backups as well -- for example, you may have a large video site that you are backing up using alternative methods.

I believe backups based on packages method is limited, when compared to this one, which allows 100% flexibility. I guess it just depends on server.

    Default BackUp Request

I would really like the back up in WHM to be much more flexible. As it is now (as far as I know) you get to make one configuration of how/when back ups are performed and then you can apply that single configuration to a single combination (or one/all) of your accounts. I would like to have it so that I can (at the very least) I can set the frequency of back up on an account by account basis. If an account has a lot of changes/modifications/updates or if it is a mission critical account, I'd want to have it updated daily in most cases. If it is of very little impact to the business mission, then either weekly or monthly back up would be sufficient. The current system of one choice, take it of leave it, is very limiting.

We have what appear to be similar feature requests for account priority-based backups:

They are close, but (as one of those posts suggest we should do) I don't want to have to create all new packages to segregate accounts for back up time/frequency. I should be able to freely assign each account a backup schedule independent of any other setting in WHM or cPanel. Where in WHM I now have ONE setting scheme for backups and I have to select one/some/all accounts to back up with that scheme, I want to create WITHIN THE BACK UP AREA, any number of back up plans, then select which accounts I put in each plan.

For example I may want to create the following plans...

    1) Weekly on Daily Monday
    2) Daily on Wednesday and Sunday only
    3) Monthly on the 1st day of the month.
    4) Monthly on the 15th day of the month.

I should be able to build these plans then add any combination of accounts to any combination of back up plans. So that any given account could be in one, some, all, or none of my back up plans.

I believe your suggestion meets the need for flexibility that was desired but unfulfilled thus far in the discussion in http://forums.cpanel.net/f145/backup...hy-214532.html so I'm going to combined these threads since your proposed solution seems to resolve that problem by having Backup Plans being independent of Hosting Packages.

DjiXas, what do you think of this solution proposed by PCZero? It seems very similar to your original post.

Our "Angry Llama" team is currently planning to work on a system that allows different packages to have different treatment when it comes to backups, you can read more about this at https://trello.com/card/as-a-reselle...56d262afd2f/28 - let me know if that meets your needs.

I tried to read and follow the info at that link but could not make heads or tails out of it. That site is EXTREMELY difficult to read figure out what all is going on so I have no idea at all if it even comes close to addressing the issue at hand. I appreciate the effort very much, it is just that the presentation there is not very condusive to someone coming in cold and trying to figure out what all is going on. My original post clearly explains what I desire for back up plans. As long as the work you listed allows that, it is filling the objective.
