Ok, there are linux RPM's for Jabber over TLS/SSL. The idea here is to abandon AIM/ICQ altogether for sending plain text information. I was under the impression that the form post data like SMF forums uses would send skype messages, securely to the end client skype client on windows?

Has your R&D team thought of that method?

Do you mind if I fork this request for Jabber/XMPP into its own feature request? I know many sysadmins use Jabber (or a chat service based off XMPP) so that request may get much more traction.

If XMPP is an option I'd like to see it implemented in WHM.
More contact methods rather than jurasic ICQ or AIM (which is used basically in USA only) would be great.

I was able to locate an already existing report for this in our internal systems. I've bumped that internal report with the positive and insightful feedback received via this thread.

AIM and ICQ are archaic IM providers.

Most people have GTalk either through Gmail or through Google Apps.

It would be nice to see atleast the GTalk option enabled for WHM Notifications.

Suggestions are welcome.

I agree with this. A modern messaging system like Gtalk should be taken in account.

One can connect to GTalk on the Jabber protocol, so if we were to simply add the ability to connect to an external jabber server on the following feature request, we could accommodate both request simultaneously:
