It would be useful for our (not so skilled) managed customers to have more restoration options like restore/skip homedir, restore/skip emails from their WHM.

I like this idea:
Advanced restore allows you to restore each individual item from within a backup down to an individual directory or database or email account.
Of course this would require pre-processing the backup file in order to display a selectable list of items to restore.
Can this function be brought down to the cpanel level as well?
Should it?
Lets discuss
So far I have heard recommendations via the forums and via direct communications with Partner NOCs for:
- Restore individual files
- Restore individual directories
- Restore individual email account
- Restore individual databases
- Skip Emails
- Skip Homedir
Is there anything else anyone can think of?
Yes, it is an interesting feature.
If an account have more than 40 email accounts, used via POP3, and have several databases, and someday they make a mistake, let's say with only one db, actually you are forced to restore EVERYTHING and thus you can lose other's db updated information after the last backup, and the pop3 accounts will be restored too and force all those people to redownload their emails. A real pain in the a**...
+1 FOR THIS.
Greetings,
I have submitted a report for this functionality with our developers. As more information becomes available such as ETAs, this thread will be updated. I have also updated the title of this thread to reflect the internal case number for this feature request as it will likely be mentioned in a changelog when this feature is implemented.
We should be able to select what we want to restore via check boxes.
All Email accounts
Individual Accounts
All DB's
Individual DB's
All Web Files
Individual Web Files
A lot of the time I am asked to restore just website files and 1 database so that I dont delete all the email and I dont roll back databases for other applications.
Another good option would be to prompt whether or not to restore the DNS records.
This may be a duplicate request, but I can't find it.
When you restore a backup, we get a few options today, such as whether to restore MySQL, Mail Config, or Sub-domains. But in the real world, we see these types of Restoration Needs:
1) Customer has deleted an Email Account and wants ONLY that one specific Email account restored.
2) Customer wants their public_html (www) Directory ONLY restored, without restoring Email accounts or other directories at the root level of their homedir.
3) Customer wants a specific MySQL Database restored.
Backing up and Restoring files is an integral part of every web hosting provider's services. I would like to see the Restore process greatly enhanced to allow for quick and easy Restore functions for SPECIFIC parts of the backup only.
Thoughts?

I can definitely vouch that having the functionality as listed below would greatly enhance my ability to turn around quick restores for clients we have.
I could not could the amount of times I have manually extracted just the website and SQL database from a cpbackup file when the clients mail was not to be touched.
Great idea, would really like to see this implemented.
- David.
This is a brilliant suggestion, which I would love to see implemented.
how about even allowing customer to restore from his own cpanel what to restore ?
I thought this request was familiar. After a few days I found a relevant thread:
[Case 44327] Restore backups : more options
Before I merge the threads (as that is a feature request already in our internal systems), can you see anything in that thread that doesn't address what's being requested here that perhaps I should add to our internal notes?
Good catch, David. I tried to find an existing request, but no luck. Glad your searching skills (and memory) are better than mine.
I think the existing request is the same as what I am envisioning, so it would be a good merge. However, with no movement in over a year on it, maybe devs are not so keen on it?
- Scott
Any news on this request?
