Default Dated subdirectory within the daily, weekly, and monthly backup directories

Automated cPanel backups should be saved in a dated sub-directory within the daily, weekly, and monthly, backup directories, where there would be a history of multiple unique backups available to restore from for each backup interval.

Currently by default backups are saved in /daily with no date and overwriting the previous backup, I would like to see the option to create dated sub-directorys e.g. daily/01_10_2010/accountname.tgz

I am aware this may be possible via 3rd party scripts however I believe such a basic yet vital feature should be made available via the backup screen without the need for 3rd party scripts.

What's your thoughts on using an ISO 8601-compliant date? This would allow your paths to be sorted by the system in date order.

I ask mainly because I heard this mentioned in another feature request and thought it to be a useful international standard: http://forums.cpanel.net/f145/standa...ps-166062.html

    Default Rotating backups

I'm creating this feature request on behalf of a customer who opened a ticket earlier this evening on the subject.

First, here's a description from cPanelDon of how the current cPanel backup system works: http://forums.cpanel.net/687558-post.html

At the present time cPanel does not use a dated subdirectory within the daily, weekly, and monthly, backup directories; however, through customization it is possible to achieve.

Customers are requesting a feature for the backup system where they can request the amount of days to store backups for. In other words, if today is the 1st of the month, and they want 7 days worth of backups at any given time, then over the next 7 days, the backup system would store backups for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. through the 7th. Then, on the 8th day, the backup from the 1st of the month would be overwritten with the new backup for the 8th.

I have found several other threads on the forums from customers who have also inquired about this:

    http://forums.cpanel.net/f49/backup-...ly-164334.html

This feature has been requested to also work when using remote backups via FTP. Any customers wishing to see this feature in cPanel are encouraged to reply with any suggestions you may have, or just to let us know if this is something you'd be interested in seeing in cPanel.

I have merged two feature request threads that I believe describe very similar enhancements and or share identical goals, such as having a rotation of dated subdirectories within the daily, weekly, and monthly cPanel backup directories.
