Default Disable Unlimited Mail Quotas [Case 59844]

Not only default quotas but ability to turn off "unlimited quota" selection.

In reference to the following thread (http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/cpanel-1...ota-68801.html)

This functionality is propagating as part of version 11.28. This setting is in Tweak Settings as "Quota options for new email accounts".

I would like to add my support for this option to be re-added. I think that having the option of forcing users to set a mailbox quota limit would be beneficial as this would help to prevent users from storing Gigabytes of emails under their account which often causes I/O issues during IMAP syncs / backups etc.

An option to set a "Maximum user-defined mailbox quota" limit would also compliment this and give admins the option of ensuring that

    a) A mailbox quota limit is set
    b) The mailbox quota limit cannot be set above X Megabytes.

    this option is a must.
I'm having trouble with accounts using more than 30G mailbox.
The account restore is impossible with such quota.
I wrote a script to delete e-mails oldest than 2 years
i'm know desabling the "unlimited" radio button from the cpanel x3
but these are not real solutions

we need the whm tweak option back, please

+1 to readd this feature. I have several resellers setting unlimited space for account emails and it's pretty annoying.

I too would love to see this feature re-added as clients not maintaining their email accounts is the number one reason for our disk space exceeders on the smaller packages we offer. The bigger packages are no better for those same reasons MedMax list above!

I wholeheartedly agree, and I strongly urge cPanel.net to implement said global email quota limits in WHM. It is no fun at all to have to constantly deal with giant, bloated UNLIMITED quota email accounts that have been forgotten about and become filled with 5 years worth of spam. It is hard on the server to back up this useless garbage night after night, and eventually our customer's accounts become corrupt, thereby evoking hours of monthly support work that is entirely unnecessary, all of which a simple WHM global quota limit setting could greatly help us avoid.

I am getting ready to roll up my sleeves and start altering cPanel account templates (again) to implement this simple feature that is badly needed, (I had to do this before to prevent new email accounts from being set at 250mb, or unlimited by default) then of course having to re-implement these tweaks every time a new cPanel version comes down the pike, which is a royal pain, but a bit less painful than forcing our customers to clear out 50GB email accounts.

If I am not wrong, this will only affect the hosters who provide Unlimited Disk Packages. And if unlimited packages are being offered, then why should there be a restriction on the email account size?

Because if you are offering a limited summary disk package, then the summary disk quota will kick in and the client will eventually buy more space or delete mails.

But still I also feel this is necessary so that it does not give the client a wrong impression.

So +1 from my side too.

Okay, let's ensure we're on the same page. Below is the report I'll be submitting to our developers in 2 weeks, please ensure it meets your needs:

    Call for Comments:
It is desired that there be a Tweak Setting to disable the ability server-wide to create email accounts with an unlimited disk quota. That is the only setting that is desired, thus a much simpler user experience than what was previously implemented and then removed from version 11.28.

System administrators would set this setting in an attempt to curb the customer services that arise from people creating email accounts with unlimited quotas but not clearing out the accounts on a regular basis, either due to forgetting the accounts or using them in a manner similar to GMail. While it is known this will not completely resolve the issue (e.g. if many 2 GB accounts are filling up an account with a 10 GB disk quota), this is thought to be a simple measure able to significantly curb this issue.

Currently, there is no reliable way to hide the "unlimited" option from the UI as this requires a manual theme edit, which is fraught with issues.

Well, the easy answer to your question is this: So the hoster does not have to unnecessarily deal with a bazillion tickets over the course of the year, such as, "None my accounts can receive email, and I can no longer upload any web pages. What the holy fu*& &*%$ is wrong with my account now?!?!"
