Those following this thread just for modwsgi support, keep in mind the folks at modwsgi are now maintaining their own custom opt mod at:

Issue 214 - modwsgi - Add a download so users running cPanel software can install wsgi without having to break their apache conf - Python WSGI adapter module for Apache. - Google Project Hosting

Given the availability of modwsgi, what else should we be doing to support Django?

This is fantastic cPanelDavid - thanks for the headsup. With that element in place, the next piece of the puzzle would be some kind of cPanel interface to let users set up Django site instances - Define a site name and a doc root, write out vhost customizations as necessary, let them start/stop their django processes, etc. Also note that Django doesn't serve media files - those have to be defined separately and served by Apache. Most sites need two or three of these definitions - one for the "admin" media files, one for static images, css and javascript, and possibly a third for user-uploaded media. So it would be good if the cPanel interface allowed for these definitions as well.

Any updates on this? You were stalking about possibly plugins at one point?

How about the Virtual Environment method they are talking about here:
The Django gunicorn fabfile project | Ventanazul

He has 2 older methods, including making it work with apache, but doesn't recommend them any more.

This will not happen until after EasyApache 3 (EA3) hence the tag on this thread. We are still maintaining EasyApache 3 and will likely continue to do so up until version 11.38 or so, but that can change given how far out that is.

An interim solution would be to use the EA3 custom opt mod provided at Issue 214 - modwsgi - Add a download so users running cPanel software can install wsgi without having to break their apache conf - Python WSGI adapter module for Apache. - Google Project Hosting to get mod_wsgi functional and work from there.

+1 vote from me too. It's such a shame CPanel doesn't support Django. It's such a great framework and I love Python way more than php...

I'll add another vote for this, as we just finished the major headache of putting all the pieces in place for someone who wanted to run Django. It would be nice if all the components were already there for them and we could just send them on their way.

    +1 on this

Although I'm aware this will not be implemented untill EA3 is gone just my 2 cents on this.

As additional info I will provide a following link with instructions that I am using to provide django support for clients.
    - [ t o i c . o r g ] - | Wsgi on cPanel improved

As you can see there are a few more steps involved beyond just enabling wsgi support in apache.

This feature (Django support) in cPanel could be extended to automaticly set up new virtual environments, installs packages inside virtual environments (safe way, and by this I mean not granting compiler access to users).
Shell fork bomb protection must be revised for this purpose and, ofcourse wsgi script handlers per application should be tracked. etc... etc...

Since this is basically more of python/wsgi/virtualenv stack request, it can be adapted to any application requiring those items. Turbogears, web2py, Django... etc...

For those who are not aware, we are soliciting feedback regarding a preferred Python implementation via a new mailing list devoted specifically for this subject. If you want to participate, you can visit: cPanel

Default Support for python as a customer language

CPanel brings good support for PHP and Ruby, however Python user base is increasing and we are noticing certain
loss of customers. There is a lot of unoffiicial documentation for installing Python, however it would be great to
have an official support for that language on the last version and frameworks like Django.

I will merge this into our existing feature request thread for Python and Django. Furthermore, you may want to visit http://go.cpanel.net/python to have a voice in our upcoming Python support implementation.
