Default Don't backup suspended accounts [Case 52161]

    Request:
Skip backups processing of suspended accounts.

I see suspended accounts that are consuming resources when the nightly backup is run, even with the incremental option enabled. It would be nice to set a flag to disable backups for a user account when it is suspended. Not forgetting about adding this option to the API.

Then unsuspending them should unset the flag in the backup configuration manager.

Is there any reason to backup or process any data on suspended accounts?

    +1 for this.
Technically I don't think there is a reason to backup or process any data on suspended accounts. That customers have not paid the corresponding fees, so any service should be kept suspended, even the backup services!

It would make sense to run at least one more backup after the account is suspended -- that way you have a backup of the latest data -- but yes, I agree that there isn't much point in backing up suspended accounts after that since nothing will have changed. Though with incremental backups enabled, what is it actually going to be backing up each time anyway?

+1 here as well. There's no need to backup accounts which don't pay for the service

its obviously waste of time&space at the most of the time..
but ppl should be allowed to choose if they would or would not make backup of suspended accounts

If the backup option is incremental, and if the account is suspended, then technically the files should not have been updated. So the weekly backup will skip those files..... or am i wrong ?

I met with a developer today to discuss this, let's make sure we get this right the first time. If the below is not what you're looking for, please let us know.

Currently there is no way to disable backups from being made for suspended accounts. This is a potential waste of hard disk space. The root user should have a setting that disables backups from being made of suspended accounts. Only a root-level user would be able to set this setting.

I think the main issue was a waste of processor more than disk space. Not sure if it is a good idea to remove the backup if they are suspended if that is what you are suggesting regarding disk space efficiency.

Didn't mean to imply that, so here's an updated version:

I agree with the updated version, David. This setting should be available in the Configure Backup screen.

    Code:
Backup Suspended Accounts: ( ) Enabled (o) Disabled
Disabled by default? What do you think?
