    Lightbulb Dovecot Prefix: Create folders on INBOX level

    Hi there,

    We've been asked why it isn't possible to create IMAP folders on the same level as the INBOX. I assume this is due to Courier compatibility which might not be as important as it used to be (at least for us - we won't change back).

    So it would be really handy to have an option for changing the prefix in the namespace as shown in the dovecot wiki:

    Namespaces - Dovecot Wiki

    I think it should still be compatible with Courier using following configuration:

    Code:
    namespace private {
      separator = .
      prefix =
      inbox = yes
    }

    namespace private {
      separator = .
      prefix = INBOX.
      inbox = no
      hidden = yes
      list = no   # for v1.1+
    }

    According to cPanel, there are a couple of hard coded templates that would need altering which is why it wouldn't be a quick modification...

    I am curious what situation your customers are encountering where this would be needed? I know old mail clients used to show INBOX then folders under INBOX - but contemporary mail clients (even webmail, Apple's mail.app in the latest versions of OS X and mobile mail apps) automatically detect the INBOX prefix and work from that considering that the "root" level.

    With this knowledge we can better understand how to meet your needs.
