    Default Email Quota Separate

I would like to request a new function/resource in this new version of Cpanel 11.25, which for us makes a strong difference.

Is there any chance of being implemented as email accounts stay in another area of the disk (quota)? For example, I have an account with 200MB of space for the website, more 10 email accounts with 1GB of space for each account.

    Hopefully it will be possible!

    Sorry for my bad english.

    Thank you!

This has been requested long time ago (years).
    [[Bugzilla link removed]]

It also have been requested separated server for mail, mysql, dns.
(The only thing that works is dns the mysql you can host external but the options to setup the "user, dbname, password and etc will break with remote mysql)

But that has not been done.

So many things need to improve in cpanel, like their formmail does not have captcha option yeat but I still have new user's that go and use that old script.

    Question

Why would you want to sell a 200MB account and then give them 10GB of email storage on your server?

Yes Infopro, on my example that's right, but with limitations invididuals for each email account. At the other commercial solution that is possible.

    Thank you!

I'm sorry, I'm not understanding you.

You DO want to sell a 200MB account, AND give them 10GB of email space, for one account, BUT, you want to be also able to sell a 200MB account and NOT give them a 10GB email space?

What other commercial software does this, got a link?

    Imagine the following situation:

I offer for my client a 200MB account (for the website) with 10 email accounts with 1GB of space (1GB for each mail account). Its more clear?

The other software is the plesk.

I do see a use for this...

For instance 100 gigs of web space, and 2 gigs of email space.. :-)

It's useful for making different types of plans.

Please correct me if I am incorrect.

Basically, you want email to be its own separate quota. For example, you assign 1 GIG of disk space, but 10 GIG of email disk space. The ideal is you cannot use the mail quota for storing websites. Furthermore, you cannot use the disk space for the remainder of the account (not email) to create email accounts.

Setting a maximum quota for an email account server-wide (other than the 2 GB maximum cPanel&WHM currently enforces when you do not choose unlimited) is not yet supported and should be a separate feature request.

One issue I see, and ask how you would overcome it, is since subdomains can be hosted from anywhere in a cPanel account, you could very easily set it to be the location of an email account's folder (e.g. /home/username/example.com/mailuser/cur or something like that). What would prevent this abuse of email disk space vs. "non-email" disk space?

From a sales and marketing perspective this is an interesting idea.

In discussing this with our developers, we tried to work out a way to make this practical but are still running into a roadblock to making this feature practical:

    - Someone can upload files to their email account via IMAP. How do you prevent Apache from serving these files and thus thwart your quota enforcement.

For example, one vector would be to build a PHP script that dumped the contents of a file attachment in a specific IMAP folder to serve that file you did not want to have count against your website quota.

well from marketing point of view if godaddy can offer unlimited disk space by overselling and limiting their resources by having 200mb email quota limits they get edge over cpanel host because of inability to limit email quota and thus giving client access to oversold, over marketed disk quota by cpanel host. some time we actually have to offer unlimited stuff which do not exists however limit it with fair usage policies. Unfortunately, this is how world works and we badly need this feature. btw, thank you for developing worlds best control panel software.

So you would be willing to accept the risk that this could easily be abused and consider abuse as something to be handled by your staff enforcing usage policies rather than a technological solution?

    Hi,

    I'm interested in this too.

For example I'd like to be able to set with the root account when making and account the following.
A package with 250 MB web space for website, mysql,... and for example limit of 10 mailbox account with a MAX quota of 200 MB each.

So we who have access to whm can set this up the usual way and the client can then go to Cpanel and make a max of 10 emailaccounts and set the quota to a limit that was previously set by the root which is in this case 200 MB. So it can be set lower but the maximum can not be higher that 200 MB.

This might sound stupid but could the devs see how it's done with plesk and kind of replicate it in WHM.

    Thanks.
