Default Google Apps Gmail Integration [Case 44284]

I did pretty well keeping up with spam in years past, but it's becoming increasingly difficult and resource-consuming to try and keep up with gmail's spam-kill rates.

Would anyone else like to see an integration option?

Could there be a one-click "switch to gmail/google apps" that a cpanel user could click to chageover their dns (or make this an easy copy and paste)?

Then if this is chosen and done, have the email section within cpanel become a link to the google apps control panel if they've switched? (and maybe a small subtle option to switch back if they wanted).

Would love to see this kind of integration into cPanel.

I would set it up to only allow use of gMail/Google Apps for our servers. SPAM management, bandwidth, mobile access are just some of the reasons I can think of to use this.

SquirrelMail just doesn't cut the mustard anymore these days.

I would love to see a plugin like this built, and would pay to license it - but I don't see how it could be one click, especially for Apps. Apps requires a multi-page sign up with a bunch of information that the user would have to be led through, and the MX records do periodically change.

Why not just add the gmail MX records? Are you saying it would be nice to create a local virtual user on the server-side as well as Google Apps? I use google apps now and would rather login to my google apps admin to mange mail. It would be a pretty cool plugin indeed, but sounds like it would be a lot of work with little return on investment on cPanel's side. Just a thought.

Currently, that's what's done, however, there are a lot of end users that are completely unfamiliar with DNS editing and, to be blunt, have absolutely no desire to learn. A one click set up, or easier set up, for them would be handy.

We offer a GoogleApps install service free to our clients, and 3/4ths of them prefer we do it for them. That indicates a plugin would likely have an appreciate audience.

I agree. A plugin would be awesome. I'm currently trying to figure out how to set this up myself. Any tips would be appreciated.

What this indicates is that you should be charging for this. I know people want things for free, but the key thing here is "no desire to learn".
When you see that, you should see "rather pay for it than try to learn".

Seriously, the reason 'we' know dns and all our tech junk is because we spent the time to learn it. One must spend 'something' to have something, either time, money, or body part.

Even being experienced setting up Apps and DNS and MX, it takes me some time to get things setup. It is not a simple one-click process, even for new accounts with no previous emails.

To make it quicker for me, I have a googleapps mx template in /named, which I can then copy/paste into the domain's file to replace the default mx settings.

The Developer Discussions section of this forum is a great resource for getting started and for assistance with getting code to work. We have our official documentation for our APIs etc. at Developer Resources but you can find many tips from our integration team at the integration blog: cPanel - cPanel Integration

I'll leave this thread open as a feature request, but feel welcome to start a thread there if you want to build your own plugin/integration.

I think this is a good idea too, we should be able to disable the feature though and it should be disabled by default.

That's true - however, we use it as a value added service, so it works for us. It also benefits us by offloading email to be someone else's problem (to put it bluntly), so I don't mind doing it for free,

I certainly wouldn't do it for people that didn't pay me to host.

Default Google services now available with Plesk. How about cPanel too?

Official Google Blog: Google services now available at your hosting control panel

Are the cPanel guys talking with Google too? This would be great!

    Thanks,

    Ross.

Smile Google Apps integration & tutorial

Rochen has Google Apps integrated within cPanel.

Here's an easy to follow tutorial I developed to help you (or your clients) set up a Google Apps account and then deploy it within it cPanel. It is certainly an easy enough process, but it takes time to get your head around it - but this is time many people don't have to spare.

I'm sharing this tutorial for free, but ask for donations should you achieve a satisfactory result.

In addition, I'd appreciate feedback on any possible improvements.
