Default Mail sending limits per email account (rather than per domain) [Case 56138]

In a discussion with a cPanel Partner NOC, a suggestion came up that cPanel integrate per e-mail account mail sending limits, similar to the existing limits that can be configured in Tweak Settings that limit how many emails a domain can send per hour.

One goal of such functionality would be to avoid punishing other email users on a domain simply because 1 user decided to be abusive by means of sending bulk email.

Would you find this feature useful? Do you have any suggestions on how we should implement this feature?

Personally I think it would be more useful to see a limit per cPanel account instead of per domain or email account. Say you have a cPanel account with unlimited add-on domains ... if they were crafty they could theoretically send a huge amount of emails in an hour even if you limited them to 100~200/hour per domain.

I agree with Mike. WHM should have a screen where every domain may be assigned with different limits. One abussive user in a domain may serve as bad example and give a lesson to other users about "limits". That user must be penalized by the owner of that domain, not by us. And at the same time, the owner, our customer, must be aware of the existing limits over his domain.

By now, I can arrange by manually editing the /var/cpanel/maxemails file, but a WHM interface would be sweet and you and I both know that is a no-brainer to program it

Requests for help are off-topic for this forum. Please ask for assistance in the other forums. Also you can look to our documentation which explains how to configure the maxemail setting.

BTW, is there any plan or ETA for this feature to be added to WHM?

Just thought I'd bring this feature request back to the light again.

Still looking for a way to place hourly limits on email per domain rather than for all users on the server. Individual email address limits is not a primary concern, but being able to extend a limit on an individual domain would be helpful.

Actually - it looks like this feature is now implemented.

When I searched earlier I was using a different combination of words which gave me different results. Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but at least now there's an answer on it

I believe the two requests are slightly different in that this thread has a more narrow scope of requesting the ability to limit how many messages a single e-mail account can send while the other thread applies to how many messages an entire domain can send.

Default Enforce a per-mailbox SMTP rate limit

    Hi,

actually, I want to limit maximum e-mails per hours for each mail users. (for example if I create user1@test.com user2@test.com, ...) I want none of them to be able to send out more than 100 e-mails per hour.

Hi! You have to go to WHM > Tweak Settings > Mail > Max hourly emails. The default is "unlimited" but you can set the value you need. This settings applies to ALL the domains hosted in that server.
    Regards

That setting is per-domain, I believe the OP was referring to per-email user limits which currently do not exist.

Yep. And I guess that such function indeed don't exist because applying those individual rules in a server cluttered with lots of mail accounts would be a pain in the a** that may make load to be shown in red numbers most of the time...

Default Enforce a per-mailbox SMTP rate limit

There is a per-domain SMTP limit which prevents an evil user from getting away with SPAM. In the case where that user is providing mailboxes, hitting this limit means that NOBODY on their domain can send mail. To prevent this, a (lower) rate limit per mailbox is needed in addition to the rate limit per domain.
