    Default Network Script changes

    Hi,

This is probably a very small request but one that just caused us no end of grief with an end customer. We had to add an additional physical network interface and as per most Sysadmins, i just simple ran /etc/init.d/network restart to get the new interface up and online. What i didn't realise is that this would drop all other network aliases.

My request is quite simple. Is there any way that cPanel could upon installation either move or symlink from the network script to the ipaliases script instead. This is a simple fix that would probably save a lot of headaches and other admins getting caught with the same issue.

    Thanks

So you are asking us to have "/etc/init.d/network restart" to also issue "/etc/init.d/ipaliases restart" command?

There are instances you do not want ipaliases to restart and do want the network to restart. That's why both are different commands. Of note, those commands aren't cPanel but services on the server itself. We normally only modify our own scripts and services in this manner.

The ipaliases init script is installed by cPanel; however, the network init script is provided by the Linux distribution, (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, CloudLinux). From the perspective of a system administrator, I suggest creating a custom script that executes both; would that not satisfy your requirements?
