    Default Only Allow Database Backups

My web host has just disabled all cPanel Backup/Restore capabilities for all of its customers. While I agree with their reasoning, they and I are "frustrated" by the fact that there is no way to disable only some types of Backups, while allowing others.

Specifically, I really like cPanel's Database Backup and Restore. And would like to continue using it. And my web host would like to continue offering it if only cPanel/WHM allowed the disabling of Filesystem backups without also disabling Database backups (and restores).

Yes, I could just use phpMyAdmin's EXPORT functionality, but even when I manage to figure out all the option boxes where check marks are required, I still don't have a backup that, among other advantages, has that nice comment line at the end that cPanel provides, so I know that my backup is complete. At 3 a.m., simple/fool-proof is important.

In summary: I would like to suggest more granularity in the disabling of cPanel Backup/Restore, to allow your customers to provide, for example, just database backup and restore through cPanel, without allowing filesystem backups.

I've relocated your post into the Feature Requests forum to help bring more attention to your idea for allowing more granular control over managing backup and restore features in cPanel, such as to only allow database backups and restores. Thank you for the suggestion.

I already coded my own separate backup script that will do exactly what you requested/suggested.

My script will backup all customers mysql databases using:
cpuwatch from cpanel ( for load control )
Pipe Viewer for a mode detailed stats of archiving and transfers ( ivarch.com: Pipe Viewer )
can be hook up on cron to keep as many backups defined , default daily -> BACKUPDIR="/mnt/rbackup/mysql/`date +%Y-%m-%d`"
