Per-user (Daily /Weekly/ Monthly) backup intervals to override [Case 47116]

Hello

I would like set backup for my vps in a specific way but it seem is not possible...I would like you confirm please.

I would like set weekly backup for the whole vps accounts. This normally can be set by choosing "weekly" ans by ticking Retention option Monthly..Like that daily and monthly backup will be not performed and only weekly backup will be done. Now I would like allow for some specific account more interval like also daily or also monthly or also daily and monthly...

This seem to be not possible....I see only the option to choose some specific account to make or not backups...but not to choose more interval..

Do you confirm ? If yes do you have a solution ??

Maybe you plan to add this feature in a near future ?

Are you backing up your cPanel accounts or your VPS accounts? I don't think there is a functionality in WHM to backup VPS, just the cPanel accounts.

Not understand well what you mean. I have a VPS and I would like backup users account. I don't have a server with several VPS so my need is not to backup VPS account...

I don't think you can choose "per user", like this user goes daily, that user goes weekly, and this one monthly.

The system only have one option which is effective on the accounts you choose to backup, so the only option now is for you to include a list of user accounts to backup.

You can only define one period for the whole list.

You may need a custom script if you need a different backup period for each user.

If there is any uncertainty as to what is possible feel free to ask us. By submitting a feature request it allows the opportunity for new ideas to be considered for possible implementation, such as what dotcom22 has described in this thread.

Ok so everybody confirm me is not possible to do what I describe here...too bad :-(

Yes it will be wonderful if this feature can be added in near future. In fact I plan to set weekly backup for all my users (this options come by default in their hosting package)...but I would like propose more paid options for who want increase security with more backup... In first I thinking to propose daily, weekly and monthly backups for everybody and adjust price in consequence but this take me too much disk space for a options not always necessary for all users...This ways obligate me also to bill more expansive package...

I took several of the backup suggestions and thought of the best way to meet their intent. Here are my suggestions to make backup very desirable.

Change 'Select Users For Backup' to 'Schedule Users For Backup' and put a radio buttons for each member that allows you to specify 'Daily', 'Weekly', and 'Monthly'.

I suggest combining them.

My vision is that you keep the normal implementation, but then you can modify that schedule on a per user basis or by a package basis from that screen in an exception format.

An industry practice of setting different backup "tiers" for different hosting packages is gaining traction. For cPanel&WHM to accommodate this industry trend, it should allow users and packages to be excluded from certain types of backups. This is not accommodated with the current system.

Here's the basic idea: a hosting provider may want to offer both introductory web hosting and a higher grade of web hosting on the same server. Why should both be allowed to consume the same amount of resources when it comes to backups? The proposed system would allow the "cheaper" accounts to be excluded from daily backups, whereas the more expensive accounts could receive daily, weekly and monthly accounts. The current system is all or nothing, there is no way to set "exclude from daily backups" at this time for just specific accounts or packages on the server.

This system should accommodate both packages and users being selected for these exemptions to daily, weekly or monthly backups.

For users, this could be implemented on the back-end in a way similar to how /etc/cpbackup-userskip.conf is, but we could add something like:

/etc/cpbackup-userskip-daily.conf (skips daily backups for these accounts)
/etc/cpbackup-userskip-weekly.conf (skips weekly backups for these accounts)
/etc/cpbackup-userskip-monthly.conf (skips monthly backups for these accounts)

This is arguably both an account management and a backup setting. However, discussion has focused on this being considered a backup setting.

+1 for the whole concept.

Several active customers may need more backup retention, and that would be an interesting extra service to offer for server admins. And in the other hand, there accounts that do not need to be backed up more than in a monthly basis.
