Default perl/cgi errors included in cPanel error log.

Currently, perl/cgi errors only show up in the server logs. A client needs to contact us to see what a 500 internal error is when working with a cgi script.

I propose that these errors be made available to clients in their cPanel error log listing. This will allow the client to troubleshoot problems more quickly with their perl/cgi scripts when they can access more meaningful information on the cryptic 500 server error.

What about giving cPanel users access to error_log entries relevant to them as discussed in http://forums.cpanel.net/f145/case-4...gs-169810.html ?

I think it would be much more convenient for the client to be able to log into cPanel, view the error log, make a correction, then go back and refresh the error log display to view any new errors that may have been generated with a perl/cgi script then logging in, download the error log each time and then viewing it.

I'm pretty sure this functionality was included at one time, may up to 2 or 3 years ago and disappeared. It's been that long since I worked with cgi on a hosting account, but, I'm pretty sure I remember using that method for troubleshooting perl/cgi scripts. Not sure why it was taken out.

That sounds to be about the time we switched to SuPHP and SuExec (SuExec forces CGI/Perl scripts to run as the cPanel/system user rather than user nobody). Often, when a HTTP 500 error occurs, it's because of an issue with SuPHP or SuExec (logged to the suphp_log and suexec_log respectively). These issues can include things like a script having excessive permissions (e.g. global write). I can certainly see the use of adding these log entries to a user's Error Log screen in cPanel.

If these are not the errors you are looking for, let me know the log file that currently contains these errors so I can investigate further.

Yep, that would probably be it. Any errors from a perl/cgi script throwing the cryptic 500 internal error so that the user can view the server logs to see what the error is.
