Arrow PHP 5.3.x

Do you have any updates or ETA as to when PHP 5.3 will be integrated with cPanel and released under EA3?

Thanks in advance.

None at this time. I believe there are some build issues with various extensions ( and possibly the binary extensions such as IonCube loader ).

PHP 5.3 isn't recommending yet. Many software and scripts doesn't work with the latest version.

Zend optimizer and Ioncube will update their software on end of this year. Till then it doesn't work with PHP 5.3. PHP has removed some backward compatibility stuff and there are many other problems.

No reason why it can't be added to EA though, as long as 5.2 is still available to those who want it. 5.3 works fine here in our development environments, no problems with backward compatibility either.

Cpanel needs time to test this version with their EA.
Adding new version is one part. The other part it must be compatible with the current EA (php modules).
Cpanel must remove the modules that aren’t compatible with PHP 5.3. This means changes in the EA code and maybe also Cpanel code.

The changes must be tested to find bugs/problems in their code.

I appreciate that, but the least they can do is keep us posted on their progress.

I'm wondering about 5.3 integration, too

I would also like to know the progress on 5.3 integration. Thank you very much.

It is likely we will wait for release of PHP 5.3.1 before integrating PHP 5.3 into EasyApache. This both gives additional time for other third parties to become compatible with PHP 5.3 as well as allows time for various problems found with PHP 5.3.0 to be resolved.

PHP 5.3.1 RC1 has been out for almost 2 weeks now. When a stable release of 5.3.1 is out will we finally have PHP 5.3 support with EasyApache?

It depends upon what is fixed and what is broken in PHP 5.3.1

Php 5.3

Yes, another thread about PHP 5.3.

I really need this and am even wondering about recompiling PHP on my VPS (though my linux knowledge isn't that advanced and I'll probably cock it up).

Can I have a status update please?
