    Many months have passed ;-)

A lot of small and big improvements but backup seems to be the hardest part. Or the unsexiest.

    Still unencrypted FTP backup.

Beside all of the bells and whistles everybody wants to get added I see two basic features from the point of security.

    1.) Encrypt the transport
2.) Allow the encryption of the backupfiles when they are on a remote storage

Please post your workarounds, scripts or ideas. Thanks.

Default Backup to local and rsync over SSH

    hey,

The only way seems to backup locally to another partition and use rsync over SSH. But not encrypted neither on the host or backup drive. And also, it does require some space on your server...

I don't understand how come sftp or TLS is not implemented, this is a protocol that is already well done throughout cpanel... just not in the backup process. weird.

    take care!

I want point out a thread where at least the encryption of transport is pointed out. The active discussion of the cpanel team makes the difference here.

Still hoping to see some kind of official word when this feature update is coming. Hopefully I'm not just holding my breath for nothing.

Instead of filing this request, I have filed a request for the more comprehensive functionality discussed over at http://forums.cpanel.net/f145/remote...tml#post672402 which does include making backups over an encrypted protocol.

I could file a separate request just for backup over SFTP or FTPS if you desire.

2,5 years have passed. I have followed the link "Remote Backup without Local Disk Write" to following the discussion. 7 months have passed on that thread. Has the discussion moved somewhere else.

The focus on secure backup seems to be diluted.

    Secure transfer. Secure storage.

Two simple sentences. But a hell lot of work.

Secure transfer (SSL/TLS FTP or SSH).

    Secure storage (e.g. GnuPG encryption)

Perhaps it isn't lacking interest but perhaps a working backup strategy is the competitive advantage hosting companies have ;-)

Not sure if a new filing with devs will help. But I would like to here a few comments about integrating
a tool like Duplicity ( duplicity ) and http://duply.net/ into the backup system.

    Sidenote:
There is currently no routine/concept/whateveryouwanttocallit to let users priorities the features requests.
Such a voting concept would force us to trade-off instead of flooding the features wish list.

This thread doesn't appear to be in the feature request forum. Would you like it to be moved there? That location would be at Feature Requests for cPanel and WHM

Seems to be that there wasn't a feature request forum when I started that thread. Feel free to move the thread.

    Lightbulb password protected backup files

    Hi there,

Being able to password protect the resulting backup file is a must nowadays that security is a priority.

I would suggest/request adding such feature to your system.

    Thank you

p.s.- i understand that all it needs are a couple of flags to be added to the compression command and the corresponding input fields on the cpanel/whm UI. Let me know if i can provide you with asistance on this matter.
