Default root management of cron jobs [Case 34693]

I find out from cPanel support that it does not cater for managing cron jobs by root user. I have a situation (as root user) where I need to manage the cron jobs for the entire server and the only way to achieve this is via SSH with "crontab -e".
It would be really productive if the root user had an option in cPanel because now I have to switch to another app in another window on another PC...(get the picture...) to change another account's cron job. Whereas if cPanel had this feature...I rest my case.

To a certain extent I understand and agree with this request for certain uses.

On the other hand, I find directly editing crons from SSH much easier anyway.

Just to be clear, you're recommending we take the Cron Job interface (with both basic and advanced modes) from the cPanel interface and put it in WHM for the root user to edit root-level cron jobs?

I assume this should be pre-populated with any cron jobs already set up for/by the root user?

Just found this thread. And I need to set up a cron run by root - it would be handy to have this feature.

And yeah, pretty much what exists in cPanel accounts, only for root. Would be awesome. As it stands, I'll go edit via SSH, but without cPanel's hand-holding that makes me feel safer.

Default Cron Jobs admin from WHM

    Hello.
For me, at this moment, it would be nice to have a cron job admin in WHM, so i can see all cronjobs on my server, add if i need something new, delete.

Also, another thing, blocking or stop some accounts using cronjob.

I believe this is not so difficult... Waiting for your reply.
    Thanks

Yes please ! As I have already said in a previous post, all options that can be configured from cPanel for an account should be also accessible in WHM, we should never have to log into cPanel with root escalation.

not just for accounts separately, but to see all cronjobs on server, or add cronjobs as root, or something for system

I'm all for more WHM interfaces for common tasks as this Feature Request is suggesting. We can already install cPanel cronconfig from the Manage Plugins page and edit cron for updates and backups. Something like that could be extended I would think to fit the idea here, IMHO.

    +1 for this.
Any news on this request as it was submitted to the developers one year ago?

I'm new to cPanel, currently moving my sites from a server that uses Webmin. I was surprised to see the lack of some cron administration functions that I was used to with Webmin. Root access, of course; and the ability to manage cron job set up by any of the accounts on the system.

Additional Webmin features that would be nice to see in cPanel:

    - The ability to run the command "now" from the cron menu. I've found this to be invaluable for testing jobs in the real environment before letting them loose on the world.

    - The ability to enable and disable cron jobs. From what I can see, the only way to do this in cPanel is to delete the job and add it again. That's nasty. :-P

I need to add some root cron jobs, and I've never used crontab before, so this is going to be scary.

I've killed your other thread since it's not needed.
