Default Server configuration and data auto-sync (mirroring)

    Hy,

I have server A and server B running Whm+cPanel. I would like to have a setting in whm that would set this 2 servers to auto sync each other. I mean server B to be a mirror of server A, but with his own server settings (like dns, ip and stuff).

And on each of my domanins I set serverA and serverB nameservers. This way if something changes on one server, the other one will auto sync (files, emails, cpanel settings).

I've read about some rsync software, but it would be nice to have this in whm as a simple setting.

    Thanks.

This would be huge. We have shared servers that all share the same cpanel configuration - including the same packages, features, firewall settings, etc... It is a huge PITA to make changes across all servers. We also have other servers in groups that share similar settings - would be great to have some sort of syncing of those that share configurations.

They already have this function for Apache/PHP configurations in easyapache.

I think it is a bad idea to auto-magically sync changes between servers, you really need to be there at the server doing the upgrade in case anything bad happens.

Having said that perhaps a centralized configuration download / upload system wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. a config file that could be downloaded from your template server and executed on your new server turn up's or simply the rest of your fleet so that you dont have to waste an hour getting everything setup with your tweak, apache, php, sql, contact, packages, etc.

Why dont we discuss all the items that would need to be included in a function like this in order to see if it's even worth it for cpanel to entertain the idea of creating it.

When an update is available we will ensure to relay all pertinent details in the appropriate thread. At this time it would be premature to suggest an ETA for this specific request; however, as interest grows and as more people reply with ideas and suggestions for preferred methods of implementation we will continue to monitor the thread and keep everyone updated should a rough ETA become known or if any related news becomes available.

Arrow Cluster to sync WHM/Cpanel with other WHM/Cpanel

    Hello Cpanel Staff
    my suggestion is

Cluster Option for cpanel, in other words... or both have 2 server with WHM / CPANEL and has an option to sync, cluster, and both contain the same data.

currently there is some option like that in WHM/Cpanel?

Not at this time, but your request sounds very similar to what is being discussed in this thread: Server configuration and data auto-sync (mirroring)

Is that the functionality you are looking for?

    Thumbs up Mirroring cPanel

You know what would be cool? is if cPanel had a setting to do mirroring.
I have been using cPanel for years, It works great
The only bad thing is I live in California, And everybody knows we are past due for an Earthquake

The benefit for having mirroring is No down time.
No down time is $$$ (Money) people could be saving

Thumbs up Complete CP Server Mirroring YES / (Not Just DNS Clustering)

Complete CP Server Mirroring (Not Just DNS Clustering)...

Yes absolutely want to see this happen!

Wether it would require 2 or more identical-hardware servers (hopefully not) Still want it for Failover. Failover? Off premises, or even On-Premises definitely want it. I already have failover connectivity into my building, so I personally don't need external premises CP server mirroring.

We talk about geographic diverse locations, but if Earth gets hit with an asteroid the size of Texas, none of us are going to be worrying about our jobs/businesses.

Being that a mirrored pair (or more) of CP Servers would be hosting the same customers' accounts, I would hope the CP Mirror license s would be less costly than additional independent CP licenses for servers hosting a different set of customers.

IP Failover? More complex when the mirrored server is at a different premises, but more simple when the mirror server is at same premises.

Not even looking for load-balancing... Looking for failover.

The primary server could be the main server, keeping sync with the mirror server. If the primary server "bought the farm", then all IP's except for the server's main IP would unbind (including shared hosting IP's), and the mirror server would then bind to those IP's. Each server in a mirror group's main licensed IP simply might not be able to be used for shared hosting. It shouldn't anyhow. I keep the servers' main IPs only for the license verification and hostname resolution anyhow. And DNS services... I don't like running main DNS services on the actual hosting servers anyhow. I prefer to slave each server's DNS data to separate DNS-only boxes that answer queries from the Internet, whereas the hosting server's DNS service is only doing its internal work.

I could go on for hours.
OK, enough babble from me about this.
Please get to work on CP Server mirroring!

Yes, +1 for me on this.. Failover and load balancing features built into cPanel would be extremely nice to have.. Should be able to link servers in a cluster, and then have some options we can set on specific sites or server-wide that let's us mirror the site(s) to other server(s) in the cluster, and then some options specifying if we want it to load balance or failover, etc.

Default Replication and failover of cpanel servers

I'd like to be able to host two cpanel based servers in different datacenters. One will be the master (active) and the other will be the slave.

If the first on goes down I can simply change my dns settings in the registrar to the slave server and everything will be fine.

    Default Add Failover/Clustering

This is a very complicated feature request and I admit could be implemented in numerous ways. But the core goal of this feature request is to enable multiple servers (two at a minimum) to operate in a load balanced configuration such as an active/passive mode.

The reason for this is that cPanel is typically used to host multiple sites, but if there is a hardware issue or operating system corruption or misconfiguration it could affect every site on that server. Being able to automatically and/or manually failover to another node means system patches and operating system reconfigurations can be done without bringing the sites down.

In order to implement this feature successfully I think it would need to meet the following minimum requirements:
    • One active server and one passive server
    • cPanel configurations must be kept in sync
    • apache clustering support
    • filesystem (cPanel/site directories) must be kept in sync (or use shared storage)
    • mysql clustering support (or use shared storage)
    • shared IP address or load balanced IP address that determines which node is active.

I have no doubt that I'm missing some key components for enabling clustering of anyone who is more experienced with clustering has something to add please do. I think this is an extremely important feature for cPanel to have (especially for hosting providers).

I agree completely, but suggest that you add feedback to existing requests for the same feature.
