Simple DNS Zone Editor shows www version of subdomain?

Why are the www versions of subdomains listed in the Simple Zone Editor?

They are found in the "User-Defined Records" section--here are the steps:

Create a subdomain, go to "Simple DNS Zone Editor", look in the bottom section.

To me this seems peculiar. Are they supposed to be listed there? It seems like an error....unless it is working as intended(?)

I'm not normally one to ressurrect old threads - but we are stumbling against this one and it seems to be causing an issue.

The www.subdomain version of the address resolves and points to the intended webspace, whereas the subdomain.domain version goes to the 'default site' holding page.

Presumably we've got something misconfigured somewhere. We've tried a few variations of the setup - tweaking the zone settings in WHM but we aren't making any progress. The non www version of the sub-domain just doesn't seem to be expected by the server.

Both versions of the sub-domain resolve to the correct IP address.

Could we manually edit the vhosts files and restart apache? Is there a better way?

Any help appreciated.
