Currently SSL is shared via the user with https://web1.hostname.tld/~username/
What about having an automatic parked domain (not counted in list of parked domains) for SSL using :
https://username.web1.hostname.tld/
This way a web host could purchase a wildcard SSL cert for *.hostname.tld that would be used on all of their servers and users could share this SSL cert. If you can have a SSL cert installed on a domain that works with *.domain.ext or have both with and without 'www.' then I don't see why a system wide feature would not work.
This would help fix the following problems :
- bandwith / stats not being counted
- .htaccess url rewriting
- true SSL
To get this working a host would have to create a dns record with *.web1.hostname.tld format
If this is possible and is wanted, then there would have to be an option for each cPanel user to activate SSL on this parked domain, but without giving a SSL cert and the server automaticaly setting up the system wide wildcard SSL cert.
