Subdomains Default Directory

Can the default directory suggestion for the cPanel addition of the subdomains be changed from something like HOME/public_html/ to HOME/subdomains/? I encountered a problem that if you have the following as being true in your normal www account, your subdomains won't work...

.htaccess

Redirect /index.html http://www.thesamedomain.com/somedir/something.else

This a pretty common .htaccess for those with items like WordPress, vBulletin, etc. One of your Tech Support folks figured this out... "This redirects all requests coming into the account to this page, and it would impact the subdomains as well". Once I shifted the subdomains to a scheme above, they worked like a champ.

I do not know if items like parked and add-on domains are effected, but this would apply to them also.

I have provided some further data below and I think a lot more people struggle from this than realized.

If
your subdomain resides here

/home/account/public_html/a_subdomain

and

/home/account/public_html/.htaccess

contains

Redirect /index.html http://www.yourdomain.com/anything.here

then

http://a_subdomain.yourdomain.com

will not work.

To Fix
move your subdomain directory to something like

/home/account/subdomain/a_subdomain
