You can use a NAT-based setup, but it simply isn't supported. Here's a discussion on how to get the public IP working in the DNS zones:
http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/using-cp...tml#post671342
Please note you actually need to edit all 3 DNS Zone templates rather than just the one indicated as addon and parked domains use a different zone template.
Otherwise, use the backend NAT IP for everything else (including WHM > Basic cPanel & WHM Setup area main IP). If you use the backend IP for everything else and the DNS zone templates have the frontend IP hard-coded, then it should work if you've properly setup the IP translation for the NAT IP forwarding on the network itself.
Again, this is not supported by cPanel and we cannot troubleshoot any malfunction in our ticket system for the setup.

Thank you Tristan... that will help.
The support of those who rent this cloud to me said there's no help for cpanel... if i choose plesk they will support it. But... i realy rate plesk, it's a terrible slow control panel.
Have edited dns zone templates, but when i create new account, zones for ftp, webdisk, cpanel still with internal IP. Someone know where i can edit template for this zones? I tried to put a new line in the zones for ftp, cpanel, webdisk, and now when i create new account this creates two zones for each.

This was recently asked as well:

You would have to create a script to revise the zone on account creation.

I will be offering data center services, from dedicated hardware to vps to shared hosting. I'd LOVE to offer cPanel as the product is great, BUT this one problem is a significant one. NAT is so standard it's almost hard to believe cPanel doesn't have official support. I see forum posts on how to hack it, but I don't want to pay for something to hack it and break support.
Please somebody from sales respond with the status of this. I'll be waiting for an official release to begin reselling cPanel to my large network.
Sincerely,
Kyle
It is unlikely we will be supporting NAT in the near term. You mention that NAT "is so standard" and imply that you require it to offer hosting services. I am interested in continuing this conversation, so please drop me an email to sales@cPanel.net with ATTN: DavidG in the subject line. I'm wrapping up for the day here (7-3 Central is when I'm usually around), but I'll get it first thing in the morning.
Hi cPanel Support,
I also request internal IP Address support for cPanel.
I am currently working on the feasibility of a project involving finding, researching and testing a suitable control panel for web based administration of web, dns and email hosting. I chose to start with cPanel due to it's features and easy deployment and use. However the lack of support for internal IP and network address translation is something that this software package lacks and if it had at least support of this, i would have a winner in progressing to the next stage of testing and documenting. Programming and extending functionality is something we have to do a lot with solutions. But not officially being supported... is not an option in this case. So yes, we could make it happen if we talked with a sales person at cPanel, however time is of essence and the slight smell of resistance in this forum from cPanel to recognise its need is showing me another signal i dont like seeing.
It may still be a winner if this feature and especially, Support, is released in the next few days? haha, like that's gonna happen, but i am putting it out there anyway.
Unfortunately the study of this software is taking me longer then i originally thought (not uncommon) due to internal IP Addressing being a major issue in terms of having the requirement of "Full Vendor Support" of the solution to be implemented.
Anyway, these are my 2 cents and i hope i helped someone make the right choice.
Thanks cPanel,
Have a great weekend all!![]()
VMWare environments are the only widely used production environments I am aware of that require NAT, and even then not all VMWare products require it (e.g. VMWare ESX server). Can you elaborate on what makes you need NAT in your deployment of cPanel&WHM? Is it a strong customer preference for VMWare over Xen or other hypervisors? Or is this for a dedicated server deployment?
VMWare is not the only one. Openstack and eucalyptus( aka Ubuntu(LTS) Enterprise Cloud) are also growing products, that use their own ip allocation methods for servers. Since not every server you would put on them should be available to the public it would be very beneficial to simply provide 1:1 NAT to the server instances you wish to "expose".
I have a server farm running a VMware Vsphere 5.0 cluster and we would like to consolidate our hosting from third parties to internal. We've purchased a Cpanel license, WHMCS and have looked into Simple Scripts to round out our hosting services. However, we've been completely thwarted by the lack of 1:1 NAT support.
We are running behind a Cisco router, 1gbps ethernet to the webserver and enough hardware to support 2-300k websites. After discussion, manually hacking the pages and scripts to force this and therefore loosing support from Cpanel is something we're not prepared to do. Therefore, please add proper support for this as soon as possible.
Like others, we're leveraging VMWare for our hosting environment and would like to see support for NAT installations. I must also echo what's already been said that although you've provided a possible fauxlution (faux + solution) to implementing NAT with cPanel, if we break anything, or if there's another unrelated problem, we've essentially 'voided our warranty' and won't get support.
I understand that cPanel cannot be experts on everyone's network configuration/infrastructure.
I agree that cPanel shouldn't be expected to support everyone's network configuration/infrastructure.
Fortunatley, I don't think anyone expects either of the two above.
However, having a mechanism that allows providers to switch between 'profiles' (one-to-one NAT or the current default setup) has value. Plus, it doesn't seem all that difficult to implement based on Miraenda's post.
Hopefully this is something cPanel will revisit & seriously consider.
Can you provide the source of this misinformation so I can have it corrected?
Yes, if there is an issue directly attributed to NAT then we will be of limited assistance; but any issue not at all related to NAT will still be investigated and usually resolved by our support team even if you are on NAT.
Hello,
Is there any update on this topic ? We are trying to migrate our hosting platform, which is based on cPanel, to Amazon EC2. Amazon also uses NAT 1:1. We already know how to technically make cPanel work under NAT 1:1 on Amazon, but we really don't want to migrate and loose support from cPanel Inc.
Is support for NAT 1:1 a feature which is being considered for future cPanel versions ? Does cPanel Inc. have and ETA for this feature ?
