While it is possible to install software, please keep in mind that proper implementation is not a small or simple change to ensure that everything works as expected and integrates properly with cPanel & WHM; any changes made require and must pass thorough development review and QA testing before a public release can be made available. I assure you we have not forgotten about the feature request and we will make sure to keep this thread updated with any new information that becomes available.

Yes, Tomcat 6 installation option is a most urgent requirement, please include it at the earliest... Most of the new java applications require tomcat version 6 to run..

We encountered a bug (https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/s...g.cgi?id=43683) in some code on a cPanel-hosted site. This bug was resolved in Tomcat 6, but of course we can't upgrade to that in the cPanel world.
Tomcat 6 first stable was released in December 2006, and a Feature Request for it has been on the cPanel books since Feb 2008. Tomcat has now moved on to v7 (January 2011). cPanel is sadly falling behind here.
Please, please cPanel Developers, we would really appreciate this enhancement.

Well we've been waiting since 2008. I guess we just need a control panel provider who cares about Tomcat. The options are:

Switch to Plesk: Parallels Plesk Panel 10 or
Install Apache Tomcat, Apache HTTPD, Your Database, and ModJK yourself

Either way is faster than waiting on CPanel... it's been almost 3 years.

I registered on the forum to to request this. We -must- have Tomcat 6 for a new application.

I really don't understand why it has taken this long. Apparently Cpanel has no interest in supporting Java?

Sadly, we've no choice at this point but to abandon Cpanel and move to plesk 10. It's a bummer because I think cpanel is the superior product, but the Java support is just not there...

It is very important to support Tomcat 6.0 and also Tomcat 7.0, both releases.

We are planning to skip Tomcat 6 and go directly to Tomcat 7. The thread for Tomcat 7 is at: http://forums.cpanel.net/f145/apache...ed-199141.html

Are there any particular reasons we should exert the resources to support Tomcat 6 when we plan to support Tomcat 7?

WOW, what a thread. I'm quite anxious to see Tomcat 6 ( & 7 ) as an option with cPanel as well. I'm seeing this popup as a necessity right now to install PHP/JavaBridge in order to print images to PDF's from a Drupal website. This is popping up a lot as a necessity.

Strangely enough, I'm not seeing the post I just made here a moment ago. Hopefully, I don't end up with a duplicate (if there are forum database syncing issues).

As I stated in my prior post, we are omitting Tomcat 6 for EasyApache and going to proceed with integrating Tomcat 7 into it. I do not have a timeline for this implementation, but we have an internal case (2685) about it.
