Lightbulb Tool to Move Addon Domain to Own Site

We have Shared Hosting customers that add a bunch of Addon Domains and then eventually want to upgrade to a Reseller account so their sites can have separate static IPs or they want separate cPanel logins for each Domain.

Currently we have to manually move the addon domain data (including MySQL data). This includes manually activating the MySQL database, and using PhpMyAdmin to export/import the data. The entire process is very time consuming, especially if a customer has added 10-20 Addon Domains.

It would be very helpful if WHM had an option to convert an Addon Domain to a site of its own (with its own separate directory structure). I understand we'd still have to edit any scripts to use the new MySQL database info but having a tool to handle the actual move, creation of MySQL database, MySQL data export/import would be very helpful!

Hopefully this can be considered in future versions.

This is a big time sink for us as well. I would very much like to see this happen

It's good that there is progress on getting this functionality added. I am actually surprised that the functionality was not originally included with the add-on domain functionality. After all, cpanel is masterful when it comes to portability, so this is a big missing piece of the puzzle.

I see the update is that it will not happen in 2011. Hopefully we can see this in early 2012.

I think that it is the little things like this which really make cpanel complete and keep it as the leading panel.

It will be good to have such feature in cpanel, definitely it will help a lot and reduce the support time.

    +1

This feature request definately gets my vote. We spend way to much time manually moving databases, email and files over from an addon domain to a "real" cpanel account.

It would be fantastic to just be able to select a few settings/options (which dbs to include in the move, etc..), specify the desired new un/pw, and then click a button and it's done.

It always amazes me this feature isn't already available, since "upgrading" from an addon domain to a full cpanel account is such a natural customer-initiated process that every cpanel host must currently be wasting tons of time doing manually.

    Thanks.

I just re-think about this case this morning. IMHO, this task become complex because the way how we create an addon. To make this possible we may need to:
    - Change the way how CPanel create an ADDON!

When CPanel create an Addon, CPanel may create a new account but invisible, then we have a table to records Master domain and their Child/Addon domains. With this approach, it is very easy to promote Addon to Master and vice versa, because we just only change the table entry.

BUT .. this only for Database on Addon part, we need to think email, ftp, cron, etc.
When I re-think ... then this really is not a simple task, we also must deal with the UI.

Thanks to CPanel Team that still working on this feature.

Please let's stick to the original feature request. IMO Addon Domains works just fine, and I don't want to see that being reworked before the ability to move an Addon Domain to a main domain has been implemented

Also looking forward to seeing a tool for this.
Even if the tool just packaged the data similar to /scripts/pkgacct and created a nice restorable tar file, that would be quite helpful.

First of all, Happy Holidays to all of you.

That being said, it seems that this feature has ended one more year waiting for being implemented, it has my +1 vote and I am so sure that it will help all of us users of Cpanel/WHM.

Hope this New Year, CPanel could give us this tool.

It looks like the last update was from a cPanel mod on August 15th.

Any update on the progress of this feature? I see that it was planned for release post-2011 and since we're in 2012, I'm just wondering what the potential for delivery is.

    Thanks,
    A

This is still in the planning phases but current planning has this implemented after 11.36 - but how far after 11.36 is currently undetermined.

I read this comment and now have an understanding how it must have seen like such torture to my own provider, because I kind of got caught up in "domain buying binge" having had received some "un-expected money" a few years back. I there thought I would add my own two cents and state that I very valuable component of this "new tool" would be to create a way to selectively "drop" - undeveloped domains, for any sort of migration.

Its not such a big deal, to add a domain, create a pw, and push a button, yet copying and migrating dozens (or even hundreds ) of empty domains seems like a horrible wate of anyone's time.
