Default A tool to migrate an Addon to its Own Full Account please? [Case 8970]

This an extension / replacement of the thread at http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/best-way...nt-124025.html

I'm wishing / hoping that the cPanel developers might possibly follow-through on adding a feature to WHM that makes migrating an Addon Domain out of one account into its Own New full cPanel account via GUI in WHM.

As it stands right now (and has been for many many years) we have to do the entire process manually (as detailed in http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/best-way...nt-124025.html ) and from what I've seen posted in that thread, particularly in this cPanel staff member post at http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/best-way...tml#post541785 - it seems that cPanel already has the ability and the preparation to implement such a utility.

I don't expect miracles or extensive changes from cPanel to the existing system, but from what I can see (modestly, as a non-programmer) it appears that creating a feature to migrate an Addon Domain out of an existing cPanel account into its own full-fledged cPanel account of its own on a server is definitely quite feasible.

It is my hope that the cPanel developers might re-visit this old request / suggestion and please consider adding a feature that will allow us hosts to seamlessly move an Addon Domain into its own full new account with the need for any manual / shell operations.

Thanks very much for considering this possibility, it would be a fantastic feature for those of us who have customers with multiple domains and tend to dispose of their "master" cPanel account/domain and migrate to just using one of their addon domains. This would be a huge help!

    Thank you,
    M2

Actually we are having a discussion about removing the individuality of the "main domain" in this thread:
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f145/true-m...nt-152097.html

Good stuff in there and your input on the feature request would be great.

Default Move and Change Addon Domain

Other Control Panel instead CPanel already has function to change Addon Domain to Master Domain!

In short, I like if CPanel can:
    1. Change Addon Domain to Master Domain (Move out to its own Account)
    2. Move Addon Domain to another Account

Actually, this not a difficult task but require complex steps. We can do it manually now but only for files, mail and database. I mean, it is enough if CPanel tool only move files, mail and database.

If other Control Panel can do this than I am 100% sure CPanel can provide this too, because CPanel is market leader and provent as the best Control Panel!

This is the task we do often, I was first surprised there's not a script to do this already, since some of the competition has it (not perfect, it doesn't move databases), but it saves quite some time in moving www files and emails.

So I definitely put my vote in for this feature!

I have located an existing report to our developers requesting this functionality and updated it with a reference to this thread. This should help lend extra weight towards implementing the ability to split an addon domain off into its own cPanel account.

Default Addon Domain Conversion to Primary Domain

It would be nice if we could get a function in WHM to convert addon domains to standalone cPanel accounts.

Often times a customer wants to make a primary domain out of an addon for SSL, they want a dedicated IP, or it becomes popular and they want to separate it out to its own account, or, they no longer want their main domain and want to replace the main domain with their addon. In all cases it requires additional work.

Seems like this should be 100% automated. The only one that sounds a bit tricky from a programming standpoint would be making an addon the new primary domain.

    Name: Convert Addon Domain
    Functions:
    A) Make addon domain a new standalone account.
(Sub Options: Give Dedicated IP Address)

    B) Convert multiple addon domains into standalone accounts.
(Sub Options: Give Dedicated IP Addresses)

    C) Make addon domain the new primary domain for this account, and make the old primary domain name as an addon of the new primary domain.

I am merging this request with the existing inquiry for this functionality so you can receive updates as it becomes implemented (if you are subscribed to this thread).

Adding my support for this. An automated tool would be much appreciated. A typical example is a customer who has a main account with add-on and then wants to have a dedicated IP & Full SSL for add-on domain, so we need to move it to its own account first.

Ideally, we'd like the tool to move:
    files
    database(s)
    email accounts
    email forwarders (optional)
    cron jobs (optional)

A tool that could say "make this add-on it's own account" would do what we need. The old main domain would continue to exist as is (but without add-on) and everything connected to add-on sits in a new domain.

Assigning dedicated IPs we could handle separately via the existing IP functions in WHM. It's the moving of files/DB/emails that matters.

Functionality should reside within WHM so that only resellers/root can access it.

Please cPanel - can we have this soon?

Personally, I'm surprised this feature hasn't been requested before (maybe it has?) or into cPanel added yet.
Hope it gets into dev soon.

This would indeed be a very handy feature to implement as moving an addon domain to it's own account is quite a common need and is way more hassle than it should be currently.

Well according to this post from cPanelDavidG - http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/best-way...tml#post541785 - cPanel developers were already considering implementing a feature to do this over a year and a half ago (so it's safe to assume that the feature was originally requested almost two years ago, maybe earlier, and by July of 2009 cPanel developers were already working on it in some capacity).

For some reason it just never gets talked about or comes to fruition, even though according to cPanel staff this has been known request for a long time and they were looking to implement it almost two years ago.

We are just doing some due-diligence as part of exploring what this functionality will eventually "look like." While the concept is simple, there are technical issues to be concerned with to ensure the feature meets our quality standards (e.g. did we avoid breaking anyone's forwarders, what about databases being properly handled etc.). I may not have any more notable updates for a while since this part of the process does tend to take a while.
