cPanel minimum character requirement

Hello,

I have a quick question about the cPanel minimum character requirement when updating passwords for an account. We have a reseller who has a client who needs to have a 4 character password temporarily while he's retrofitting an application. When we try to change the password, we get the following error:

"Sorry, passwords must be at least 5 characters for security reasons. "

How do we set the minimum down to 4 characters, even temporarily, so he can have the password he needs?

You'd need to change the password in root SSH instead then for that cPanel user. This will bypass any restrictions.

/scripts/chpass username newpass

Replace username with the cPanel username; replace newpass with the new password. I tried on my system and it didn't error on a 4 character password for that script. If it doesn't work, you can always just try "passwd username" instead, although you'd then have to sync the password for FTP in WHM > Synchronize FTP Passwords area.
