ALT is the only correct tag to label your images and yes they do show up just fine in Chrome and Firefox (both of which is what I use incidentally)!

Don't be fooled into thinking that you have to have the little balloon popups for the ALT tags to be read.

Firefox and Chrome both conform to W3C standards and have the ALT tags in the source and if
there are any network errors, images are broken, or turned off then the ALT tags are automatically
show on screen in their place and are actually there all along.

Regarding your question on search engines, the search engines don't use ANY browser and directly read
the page source code which also has all the ALT tags and that is what it indexes.

For side reference, TITLE is for your web page itself, not your graphics image files / photos

    Thanks again for the information.

I do like it when the balloon pops up with the text in it because some of the handwritten letters in my jpgs are difficult to read. Is there a way to get them to show up in chrome and mozilla and still have alt attributes. It looks like I have a choice of "caption" or "alt" but not both.

You might want to do some reading on the topic instead of relying on forum posts to get you there, IMO.

    Default Sorry

Well, actually I did quite a bit of reading ... that's where I came up the information about using a title attribute instead of an alt attribute which I found out from Spiral is totally not the way to do it.

I really appreciate the help here, your members have been very nice to me, but if you feel I"m wasting people's time with stupid questions I'll stop asking them. You are the moderator and I understand it's your job to keep things running smoothly on your forum.

    Again, sorry

The purpose of the community is to help you out and I'm glad to help you out.

The point that InfoPro is subtly pointing out is that this forum is setup
for Cpanel support and not for general hosting questions which should be
directing to your hosting provider as is policy of this community and to
that extent, he is probably right since your questions aren't Cpanel items.

That given, I've already given you my personal contact information and
you can also additionally private message me anytime here and I'd be
glad to answer whatever side non-cpanel questions you have.

I completely understand! You have been a great help and I appreciate it.

I must have had another "senior moment" since I don't remember your contact info. Could you send it to -removed-?

Thanks again to everyone who helped me.
