Default Help Needed with Brute Force WHM Lockout

    Hi all,

I have one of my servers locked out right now and even I can't get in. LiquidWeb tells me that they need to reboot the server, take it down to single mode, ban the IP, then wait for it to come up.

One thing they can't answer is if brute force shuts down all SSH, too? From the way I understood it, brute force will lock out the offending IP, not the account.

But it seems that I can't log in WHM with my IP and root and password, either.

When I try SSH, it tells me I failed password authentication. Granted, I have my server SSH for the root account to also use a pass-phrase. Still, I can't get in - it doesn't get that far.

The offender continues to try to brute force root - so the timer resets - and I am not sure what to do. Not sure why I can't get in with my IP.

    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

    Dave
