Script error

How do I go about checking if there is an error with a script?

I am receiving this message when trying to view a page...

I emailed my Host and was asked to check if there any errors in the script.
I went into the script, and this message pop up in a red filled rectangle..

Fatal error: PHP must be compiled-in as Apache module to use this method of protection. Looks like you cannot use this method of protection (mod_rewrite+php_include) on your hosting.

I emailed them back with this info and they asked me to check for errors in the script again.
I am not sure what type of errors I am looking for.
Can any assist me in this matter?
