Making Remote FTP cPanel backups faster ?

Hello,
We generally use R1Soft for our backups, but I was trying cPanel Remote FTP backups for 1 server.

If I select daily, weekly and monthly backups, cPanel generates the backup and then transfers it 3 different times to remote server. Imagine 100GB of data in /home being transferred twice (200GB) once a week and thrice (300GB) once a month.

Now, from a cPanel point of view, they only have FTP access to the remote server and hence can't do it any differently.

But, if we set cPanel to only daily backups, and then use a script and cron on the backup server to copy all backups to weekly and monthly folders (or fornightly, mid-weekly etc), backups will be much faster and we have more control over the backups.

What do you think ?

Yes, it would be faster to copy the daily ones to weekly and monthly folders on the same server over having them FTP on a weekly and monthly basis.

That's a good idea. Even may be adopted by cPanel itself if there is no cons or problems that may arise

wouldn't it be easier if the cPanel backup script could simply move the folders on the backup server via FTP directly?

I don't think everyone who uses a remote FTP server would have the luxury to implement such a script on the FTP server.
