    Howdy,

We're only supporting 2008 server, right now we support MailEnable and SmarterMail we will be adding to that list once we get moving. Doing what we do isn't possible on 2003, we need iis7 to make it all happen.

As for a release time table, soon.

    Thanks!

    Hi Eric

    thanks for your reply

i think cpanel for linux backup features awesome

but windows is hard to make all installation manually, i already have many mailenable machines it is cool too very good to high demands

but if you take a look at MSFTP you still using IIS6 even at windows 2008 to create FTP accounts so it would be only a single extra module (to create domains at IIS6 structure)

well thanks for you fast reply anyway and good to hear it will be released soon, i will get a new server only to use it for sure as soon you release!

forget to mention that nowadays unfortunatly windows 2008 still more expensive that windows 2003 servers

    Howdy,

The issue you describe is true for all mail servers. They all have a breaking point. With the way Enkompass is designed, you can just add another to your Windows Domain. You could even have one of each (SmarterMail and MailEnable).

Even though I specifically asked what Enkompass was, and you QUOTED that part of my post, you failed to explain that it was the "new" name for the cpanel application.

As far as agreeing to disagree, yes that has happened and will continue.

I personally think it was shortighted to tie this completly into AD.

I think it's crazy to have a bunch of windows users just because they might have websites on the server....shhesh....reminds me of the days when I had more front page users...

By forcing that you are also forcing the type of licensing that must be purchased or licensing costs could skyrocket rather quickly.

I will watch this app as it develops and may even try it out, but likely will not go forward wth it and hope that someone releases something that does what is needed and just happens to run on windows and will interface well with a windows server.

Can we get a clarification here:

As part of the requirements it says you need "Windows Server 2008 (Web, Standard, or Enterprise Edition)." It also states you need "Enabled Active Directory", however it is my understanding that the "Web" edition of WS2008 does not come with AD. Is that correct? If so then isnt it true that you cannot use WS2008 Web Edition with Enkompass as it does not have the required AD capability ?

With Enkompass you have way's how you setup it.

    1) Single user. This is only standard, enterprise and datacenter. Enkompass needs AD to function.

    2) Distributed System. The Enkompass must be installed on standard, enterprise or datacenter. The services (like IIS, Mail, SQL etc) can use also web edition. The services are running on own server.

    Howdy,

Rachweb has it right. You can install Enkmopass on a Web box, but wee need AD some where in the domain to control authentication.

    Thanks!

Sorry, but it's wrong to tell people they can use the "web" edition if its only going to work on an distributed system.

You MUST have something other than "web edition" for a "basic" or "single/standalone" server. This is a big jump in cost and should be made clear to someone thinking of using Enkompass. I truly believe most people will start out with a single machine, everything on one box.

YOU CANNOT USE WINDOWS 2008 SERVER WEB EDITION and Enkompass if you are going to run everything on one server. Right ?.

    Howdy,

You can't run it as a *standalone* with just web edition. You would need one standard or other version in the Windows domain. This isn't designed to be a standalone system, but it can work that way.

Why do we keep getting some kind of run-around on what this environment can or can't do ?. You say it "can" run as a stand alone or single server, or whatever terminology you want to use, but you "recommend" its run on multiple servers.

Most web hosts get ONE machine and then grow from there, I don't know of any small hosts who decide to get 2 or 3 machines at once to start their hosting. Windows boxes cost ALOT of money.

So the fact is that the "Web Edition" of WS2008 will NOT work with Enkompass for one machine. Why not simply state that?. People aren't stupid, they will figure that out. Don't you think it would be worse if someone bought the "Web Edition" thinking it would work on one machine, only to find out it would not ?. Wouldnt people be angry to find out that they need at least "Standard Edition" WS2008 after buying the "Web Edition" and now they are stuck with this limited WS2008 ?

The system requirements on System Requirements - Enkompass isn't clearly.
I recommend splitting the requirements in 2 parts.
One part is about single and the other part is the Distributed System.
Windows standard is minimal for single option.

Also there is typo. Mysql 5.2 isn't exits
