will be cpanel able to backup and restore accounts and reseller all accounts, as fast as it does in linux?

will it be able to install perl, awstats, mysql, php, mail server whatever it would be, etc all of this automatic as it is in linux? this i think it will not be so simple as at linux

and will the user be able to export accounts or all reseller accounts from linux to windows and the opposite too ?

    regards

Actually all this stuff is pretty easy in windows.

How do you think plesk does it?

Of course the cPanel implementation will be better, but I still dont know if they are going to use active directory and a "domain" setup. It would be nice to integrate the users into active directory so that future expansion into Exchange / Sharepoint / Etc will be easy however I am trying to wrap my head around what it would take right now and I might be missing something..

    Will cP4Win use AD?
    Will cP4Win use domains?

This would be a great way to provide services across multiple machines. Say that you have 1 server that acts as a cPanel server + exchange, then you have 3 other servers that are just cPanel servers, Then you have another server that is an SQL server and not a cPanel server.

AD / Domain authentication would allow you to centralize resource access across all machines and all services from a central user management interface.

That means you can have Dedicated services on Dedicated boxes rather than a bunch of services on every machine.

I think this would also help with the licensing issues that people are going to face.

    http://www.cpanel.net/products/cPane...ows/index.html says

"We expect to release the beta version of the product on December 15th 2007 and have the production release available by March 30th 2008."

Please remember to include options for NOT having these installed on the 1 box..

    1. A mail server
    2. php
    3. mysql
    4. perl

Those are 4 things I wouldn't want near a windows box, they belong on linux for me.

Things I would want to see

    1. MSSQL integration (either free or none free versions as a plugin)
    2. AD support and none AD support

    I'm easily pleased..

Have you ever run a Windows server?. I know if I didn't offer those things on my Windows servers I wouldn't have any customers on them.

Active Directory will be supported as will MSSQL.

Also note the architecture for cPanel Server Suite is different (in a good way) from cPanel/WHM. You
can find more information about that at:

    http://www.cpanel.net/products/cPane...tect-desc.html

Yes, clustering will be included with cPanel Server Suite from the initial version.

I have a server sitting at gnax ready for the windows version of cpanel. The problem is that they dont have windows 2008 as an option. Will cpanel for windows run on server 2003?

No, only Windows 2008. Softlayer offers windows installs with RC1 Windows 2008.

I will reload it with 2008.
I must have been really tired when I posted that.

cPanel Server Suite is built to be used with stand-alone servers or in a distributed server environment. This means that one or more cPanel Server Suite servers will be able to manage many web servers across a Windows Domain allowing for easy automation and maintenance of a set of servers, or your entire data-center.
I wonder how this is going to work out in a typical datacenter. I think that most datacenters are not setup to facilitate AD on a typical server without cross connects or a virtual rack.

I have servers at multiple datacenters and I would hate to have to locate all of my cpanel windows servers at 1 location.

    Possible options:
    VPN between servers
    Scheduled replication
some unknown cpanel addon that maintains the AD relationship across a secure internet port(would be best)

I'm just trying to get a better grasp on what functionality you desire. Would a Read Only Domain Controller for Active Directory Domain Services (built into Microsoft Windows Server(R) 2008) be insufficient for your needs?

I am looking for full domain authentication across multiple servers within the AD forest.

Additionally I would like to run other software and services that require that the servers be part of the same AD forest.

Lastly I dont want to maintain several seperate AD's

This becomes more important when services like Sharepoint and Exchange are added later down the road, I just want to make sure that we get started on the right foot.

The main thing I've come to like about Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is that it seems built from the ground up for web hosting in data center environments. If you don't have one of their evaluation licenses yet, you may want grab one and to load it up on a spare server. The Active Directory implementation is noticeably improved compared to the Server 2003 implementation.

While you can authenticate against a centralized AD server, AD lends itself better in Server 2008 towards replication of the AD database should you desire to improve performance or whatever your reasons may be. This way you can have what appears to be multiple AD servers, but they're all exchanging data with a centralized AD database (thus only one place to need to add/remove/etc users).

Of course, you could always just ask the Microsoft folks yourself. They seem to be at every trade show.
