Install Enkompass on a Virtual Windows 2008 x32 Server

Hi,
I am working for a client who is interested in deploying Enkompass. To test if Enkompass is good for business I am trying to Install Enkompass on a virtual Windows 2008 x32 server. Can Enkompass be installed on a virtual win2k8 machine?

My hardware: Intel Quad q6600, 4GB RAM
Host OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Virtualization App: MS Virtual PC 2007
Virtual Machine: Windows 2008 x32 (I followed all installation steps), 3GB RAM
Error I get: "... .. . This installation package is not supported by this processor type . .. ..."

Now I am not sure why the installation is failing. It fails right after I ACCEPT, AJAX, FTP and something other app separately.

Please help me. Thanks.

Enkompass requires 64-bit hardware and OS.

Thanks for the reply. It explains all. I wish Requirement page EXPLICITLY said about a 64bit OS. As you can have 32 bit OS on 64bit Proc, but not other way arround.

Along with 64bit Proc, mentioning 64 bit OS required will be more clearer for first time users like me.

Now, before I spend another 4 hours in vain, is there any known ISSUE/bump/gotcha! that will not let Enkompass run on a Virtual Machine (64 bit Proc, 64Bit Win2K8) ?

To help lessen possible confusion I've inquired with our documentation personnel to revise the published operating system software requirement so it is more clear that it must be a 64-bit OS installation; for reference, this request has the following internal case ID number: #36702

I'm not aware of any show-stopping issues; if you have any specific difficulty or questions while performing an install I recommend submitting a support request as it will help being able to access and inspect the system.

I don't know what virtualization your using but we have our Enkompass testing setup on 4 Xen VPS's. Everything works fine. If you are installing the virtuals from images make sure they are sysprep'ed or you'll have ton's of issues.

I am getting the infamous "Cannot obtain a valid license" error.

I checked with the thread with that error. I did not have the .net 3.5 sp1 installed, still I was getting the error.

I uninstalled .net 3.5, tried Enkompass installtion failed, "Cannot obtain licesne' error..
Then I installed .net 3.5, Enkompass installtion failed, same error
Then I installed .net 3.5 sp1, downloaded using link provided. Enkompass installtion failed, same error.

So I am not sure why it's failing. My current environment:-
1. Intel Core 2 Duo 1.7 GHz mobile (SONY VAIO VGN-AR630e laptop)
2. 4 GB DDR2 RAM
3. Windows Server 2008 x64 (It says STORAGE Server?) I downloaded it from somewhere online, not R2, only SP1

4. Created domain Enkompass.ultimatebangla.com in this machine and running ActiveDir, DNS. (ultimatebangla.com is a domain that I run in home LAN in a virtual 2003 machine). Does Enkompass require a domain Like DOMNAME.COM instead of SUB.DOMNAME.COM ?

5. I have a sticky IP (didn't change in last 3 years), I used that when I downloaded TEST license. But in my home I am behind a router and the Enkompass machine is using a local 192.168.0.xxx (STATIC) IP.

6. At installation time, For two UNC paths, I am using network shared drive and folder. This networked shared drive and folder are from a seperate Virtual Server 2003, connected to to same DOMAIN Enkompass.ultimatebangla.com as Enkompass machine is running DomController. I do not have any SAN or NAS device.

7. Is there anyway to see/check actual reason for the error?

I will appreciate some ideas from you. Many thanks.

*If interested I can provide LOGMEIN username/pword, one can remote-into the Enkompass machine and check around.

While the installer was downloaded, was an actual test license also obtained, such as via Manage2 or the cPanel store?

Regarding Windows Server 2008 "Storage Server" Edition (for OEM only) I am not aware of this being compatible; please refer to the official system software OS requirements for a list of compatible versions: System Requirements - Enkompass

24.179.x43.xxx cannot be activated as a test license because too many test licenses were activated in this ip space.


I tried to install so many times, probably that's why. Is there anyway to reset the counter? How can I try again? It is lame that counter is increasing even I never could install the software at least for once.

I got rid of Win2K8 Storage Server. I have now Win2K8 Enterprise SP1, with all latest updates. Uninstalled .NET 3.5 SP1, installed .NET 3.5, Then installed 3.5 SP1, then tried Enkompass install, and I got the error. I guess this time error is genuinely for LICENSE issu, not any tech problem.
