Default SmarterMail / ISAPI_rewrite under IIS

    Hello cPanel Team,

I have been setting up a test environment for Enkompass as I am getting ready to put it into production. I have SmarterMail v8 installed as well, and I prefer to have it run under IIS, using port 9998 (so Enkompass can still connect to it). A problem arises when Enkompass pushes new configs to the servers, as the SmarterMail IIS site that I manually created (along with the App Pool), gets reset and the bindings to port 9998 are removed. I can re-enter this information, and it works, but again, once the configs are pushed on schedule, the binding gets removed.

I have a feeling that this is the same sort of thing that Eric replied to on my post for Helicon's ISAPI_rewrite module (in the Feature Requests sub-forum), wherein Enkompass does not take 3rd party configs into consideration when pushing new files, and often settings are lost. Eric claimed that this would be fixed in Oxygen, so that these special configs (SmarterMail under IIS, ISAPI_rewrite) should continue to work throughout Enkompass config pushes. He mentioned that a specific Role would be needed for these users, and while I don't see any in v2.2 (current Edge release), I'm sure they will be there in Oxygen.

Anyways, just looking for some confirmation (and hopefully an ETA) for Oxygen and whether or not these 2 issues that I am experiencing above will be fixed. I know that the cPanel dev team is working hard on Enkompass, but these 2 features, (mainly the ISAPI_rewrite one) is preventing me from cutting over all of my clients to production as their sites use custom .htaccess files that ISAPI_rewrite uses.

Hopefully Oxygen isn't too far around the corner!! Thanks for all of your excellent work on Enkompass thus far as well

    Hi

from what i gather, anything custom you change in IIS will auto be reverted when Enkompass publishes IIS settings.

How we do it is have Smartermail on its own dedicated windows install as it can take up allot of RAM/CPU overtime and with the dedicated setup, not have IIS for this server setup with Enkompass.

    Howdy,

This should be doable but it's a little tricky. The next version of Enkompass will support this out of the box, but if you need it now please open a support request and we will be happy to help.

    Thanks!

    Hi all,

Since installing Oxygen, I have tried to setup SmarterMail within IIS again. I was successful in doing so, and the changes appear to 'hold', however I have noticed a side effect. When SmarterMail is running under IIS, Enkompass cannot connect to it via the Server Manager area. As a workaround, I am running SmarterMail under BOTH its native web server, and IIS. I hope this doesn't cause any conflicts, as I've searched but couldn't find anything.

Am I missing something else? There doesn't appear to be a way to tell Enkompass the IIS URL of the SmarterMail webservice so it can connect to the API.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

You will need to either change it's binding in IIS to port 9998, or run the SmarterMail web server on 9998 in addition to running SmarterMail in IIS. Running both should not be a problem.

Pretty much what I figured, but was looking for confirmation.

    Thanks Michael!
