Yes, you can do it manually, but you have to redo it with every update!

While I understand it is preferable to have the AWStats update included with cPanel (thus not requiring any other manual work), I wanted to note that it is possible to automate modifications by having a custom script apply desired customizations using a script hook such as "postupcp" (at "/scripts/postupcp"); the following documentation details this further: cPanel/WHM Script Hooks

AWStats 6.95 will be deployed as part of cPanel 11.25.1

Please Note: Important cPanel/WHM Version Number Designation Change

As of July 28, 2010 the cPanel/WHM version number designations have been officially changed.

Version 11.25.1 is now designated 11.28 and version 11.25.2 is now designated 11.30.

These new changes were explained in some detail recently at the July 2010 - Quarterly Road map - Webinar direct from cPanel's PodCast Studio in Houston, Texas with speakers David Grega and Mario Rodriguez.

Wasn't the newer version of AWStats 6.95 supposed to be included with the new Cpanel 11.26.9 release?

I updated the cpanel software but it still shows AWStats as version 6.9.

cPanel 11.26.0 is a normal maintenance update for 11.25.0 but this does not include AWStats 6.95.

AWStats version 6.95 is available in the EDGE release tier as of cPanel 11.28/11.27, which was formerly designated 11.25.1.
