Default [case 45006] Tweak Settings: please revert terminology back from "Bounce" to "fail"

In more recent versions of cPanel, the Tweak Settings options for handling email for default catch-all / default email addresses are:

    Code:
    System account default
    Process, then discard
    Bounce

In former versions of cPanel, these options were:

    Code:
    localuser
    blackhole
    fail
I've created this thread on behalf of a customer who is requesting that "Bounce" be changed back to "fail", as it more accurately describes the action being taken when handling the email.

Please let us know your thoughts and suggestions.

    Thanks.

Or, perhaps if you don't like the word "fail", "reject" is another option. To me, and many system administrators, the word "bounce" means you are telling the remote SMTP server that you are accepting the message for delivery, and then generating a bounce message to be sent back to the sender of the email message. In the case where a spammer is using faked sender addresses, this is very bad.

    Thanks.

There are many, many "how-to's" out on the 'net that explain the benefits of "fail". It is a shame that these may now need to be rewritten to use the misleading and mostly noxious "bounce"

IMHO (and that of many experts) "fail" (at SMTP time) is a much better default to use.

Somewhat Off-topic maybe: why are cPanel spending time and other resources changing stuff that already worked, and ignoring stuff that *really* *needs* *doing* ?

What happened to, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" (or as a Finnish friend told me they say, "korjata sitä, kunnes se on rikki." - "Fix it until it is broken."
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be... Dear cPanel, please don't: korjata sitä, kunnes se on rikki. (Finnish: ~= Fix it until it's borked).

Yes, these wording changes are disturbing/misleading. Could cPanel please clarify if the handling has also changed? Is the mail actually bounced or is it still rejected at SMTP time?

the term 'bounce' is ok for non-tech people, which I assume was the reason for the change.

However, I would think that a lot of users of cpanel are a bit more technical. I have plenty of clients that have no idea they even have a cpanel to do things, even though they've been told. Those that use it can understand 'fail' or 'reject' as long as it's explained.

So, how about putting a little info box explaining the terms.
:fail: = rejects email before entering the server.
    Technical term: reject at smtp
    non-technical: bounced back to sender

I think it's more important to educate the non-tech people when possible, otherwise we can run into issues trying to offer support. When troubleshooting, if someone says they are getting 'bounced' messages versus 'rejected' messages, may lead me into a slightly different direction if I'm half asleep.

@SageBrian These settings are within the tweak settings in root WHM so I don't see any issues with using the technical names that were there before. We actually did a double-take when setting up a bunch of VPS's with 11.28 because the settings no longer matched our documentation.
