[Case 45094] ClamAV 0.96.3 installed -- latest available is 0.96.5

Hi,

I installed ClamAV via WHM using Manage Plugins and it installed correctly and works. There is a the tick in the box that states “Install and Keep Updated”.

However, I am getting a warning messages that states “Last Status:

WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED!
WARNING: Local version: 0.96.3 Recommended version: 0.96.5

I have uninstalled and reinstalled via WHM Manage Plugins but it still installs the 0.96.3 version.

How do I fix this?

Everyone will have the same issue and I should imagen it will be fixed on the next cPanel update ( Monday )

The cPanel database itself does not have the latest update so just wait it out till monday or wait for a more experienced user with Clam so you can manually update this.

ClamAV 0.96.5 was released one week ago on November 30, 2010; at that time we opened internal case 45094 to address the update to this new version. Work is actively being performed on this and upon confirmation of availability we will update this thread.

Shucks, I run cPanel stable to avoid these types of issues, but seems a new version of ClamAV has been pushed to all cPanel versions instead of testing it first?

I'm not sure I understand what you are referring to. The issue discussed here is only that of the need of the newer ClamAV version so that it can then be installed (upgraded-to) via cPanel/WHM.

ClamAV 0.96.3 still works OK; the only issue is that a newer version (0.96.5) is now available and freshclam shows a notice about there being a new version.

To clarify, my NOC said the regular cPanel update they just performed removed its binaries completely, so now I have no ClamAV at all on my VPS. :-(

Have asked to to try and re-install older version. Any tips?

Seems we can't even install older version.
Their reply:

Even the previous version is not being installed properly now.
These modules are handled by cPanel and that install is failing.

Hope somebody from cPanel team can help as getting the email alerts every 5 minutes! That's a lot of emails every day we need to wait for a fix :-(

Hi,

This is unrelated to the requested update of ClamAV to 0.95. We have not modified the ClamAV files recently; this thread is simply a request to update the cpanel-provided ClamAV from version 0.93 to 0.95.

My guess is that you are running on a 64 bit architecture and your host has 'maxmem' in /var/cpanel/cpanel.config set too low, preventing the compilation of ClamAV from completing. A limit of 256mb is not sufficient for ClamAV during the build process; it uses quite a bit of memory when compiling on that architecture.

Otherwise, if this doesn't solve your issues and your hosting company is unable to determine the cause, my suggestion is to open a support ticket so we may investigate. Thank you.

That is correct. ClamAV version 0.96.5 is now available in cPanel & WHM and if automatic updates are enabled you should receive the new version without any work.

Presumably upcp --force would do it, but am I right in thinking that that would reinstall the whole of cPanel (which isn't what I want to do)?

The reason I'd like to do this is that I have a shell script on my local machine that allows me to run commands on all of my servers without having to log into each one individually (it basically just loops through a list of their hostnames, and runs ssh $hostname "$@").

I believe the following command might help accomplish what you're seeking:

# /scripts/manualupcp

The above script calls upcp with the "manual" CLI switch as seen below:

# cat /scripts/manualupcp
#!/bin/sh
/scripts/upcp manual
