    Lightbulb Change SMTP/exim IP Address

A customer has asked me how to change their IP address; so far I have located the following related posts on the forums:

    Changing Exim SMTP IP Address
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f43/more-th...xim-65044.html
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f43/how-cha...ed-154297.html
    change IP for exim/SMTP
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/smtp-default-ip-46580.html
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/how-do-i...ack-36862.html
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f43/exim-di...ss-127869.html
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/exim-dif...-ip-17089.html
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f43/multipl...ils-80725.html

As you can see there are MANY requests for either different or multiple IPs for SMTP to use for sending mail.

I understand it can be done by using the "Exim Configuration Editor" in "Advanced Mode" to edit exim.conf; however I'm told that the configuration is reverted on each update.

The alternative option is to use some kind of port forwarding method using iptables; which appears to be a cheap workaround.

I'm requesting a feature that easily allows you to set the IP from WHM.

    Thanks

If I understand your request correctly, this feature already exists as of version 11.25.0. Note, every thread you mention predates version 11.25.0.

To use this functionality, you first assign an account a dedicated IP address. Then, in the Exim Configuration Editor (the basic mode, not advanced mode), enable the following option:

** Automatically send outgoing mail from the account's IP address instead of the main IP address. Warning: If you turn this setting on you should make sure reverse DNS entries match the ones in /etc/mail_reverse_dns. [?]
Be sure to click "Save" at the bottom of that page.

Much more important question ---- WHY?

Why does your customer want to change their IP address?

@cPanelDavidG Ah, that's clearly one of WHM's hidden gems. I was unaware that the option existed. I will pass the details on to see that it is suitable.

@Spiral Why? I expect the same reason why so many others asked for the same feature.

Since this functionality already exists and discussion seems to have evaporated, I am closing this thread.
