Feature Request: DNS SRV records

I think there are several people who would appreciate the ability to add and maintain DNS SRV records in WHM. It shouldn't take much time to add this feature as BIND already supports SRV records, this is simply a frontend issue.

There are already two requests in our feature request system for this. If you want this feature, I recommend all those interested "vote" for the feature so that it will be considered a higher priority by our developers.

So it's got 7 votes now and is a pretty old feature req. Considering the apparent simplicity of the request, I'm surprised that one of the cpanel engineers didn't just hack it in. Can we get a cpanel guy to comment?

Voted for it. Not it has 14 votes.

The bug 1960 (Request: Add Ability to Add/Edit SRV Records in DNS Zone) is already the 3rd topmost outstanding feature request (after bug 1319 with 22 votes and 1525 with 15 votes and on par with 3357). However 1319 and 1525 are surely (at least a bit) more complex than supporting SRV records. In fact this SRV feature really seem a 5 minutes thing to implement (excluding QA/testing...)

Also bug 2291 (add/edit SRV & NAPTR Records to DNS) has 9 votes too and is (mostly) a duplicate of this one so, cPanelDavidG, could you please merge these two and also merge the votes? Thus it should reach 17 votes - since many are duplicates - and become the 2nd most requested feature.

Now, how often do developers have a look at the requested features list?

Unfortunately they just reverted it to OPEN because they have realized that it's not enough to add SRV to the drop-down list but also update the verification routines (wasn't that expected?).
On a side note, besides adding the SRV option to the drop-down and updating the verification routines, it will also be necessary to add an extra column as SRV records need 4 fields while now the form has only 3 columns after the record type (I hope they took this into account in their estimate of 65 hours!)

yes we did. The estimate includes development and testing. As Nick mentioned in the report, it requires a redesign of the DNS Editor system to include the extra field and all the extra validation required for the added field.

For anyone coming across this old thread, SRV records have been supported via WHM for a while. I am closing and archiving this thread.
