    Default Forum Search

Can you please consider adjusting flood controls for registered users on these forums? It's not likely that a registered user is trying to crash the server here. But it's really annoying when you get the message:

This forum requires that you wait 15 seconds between searches. Please try again in 10 seconds.

I'd think that the search function is really important at this site - users come here trying to find answers to a variety of technical problems, and it usually takes several search attempts to get relevant results.

If you're logged in you should have no problems searching the forums. This topic has come up a few times of the past few years, here's one of many threads about it that you might find useful.

Well, I haven't seen any of the increasing wait times. But it does do the wait 15 seconds before searching again. So if your search term fails and you try to spell something differently and try again, you're being forced to wait - *even if I am logged in*. It's been a while since I ran a vBull forum, but you should be able to turn off the wait time for registered users, I guess that's what I am asking you to do...

vBulletin doesn't provide the option (at least that I can find) for having separate settings for logged in users vs. anonymous visitors. However, I will discuss alternatives to reduce how annoying this throttling can be.

After doing an analysis, we wont be able to resolve this right now - but we are planning to address this in future enhancements to the forum. I don't have an exact ETA on when this will be complete, but as of right now it is looking to be at least a few months.

In the interim, we have setup automatic sitemap functionality to allow our forums to be swiftly indexed by the major search engines. You may want to use major search engines to bypass the limitations of this search functionality until I update this thread. Advice for how to use major search engines to search these forums is available in our Forum Best Practices: http://forums.cpanel.net/f133/forum-...es-132889.html

maybe in the mean time you could change the time between posts to something less than 15? If it is a bot, it would be several per second anyhow, but if it were a live human, it could be 5 seconds between a failed search, a sinple change of spelling, and hitting search again. Just my two cents though

I mean - if I come to the cpanel forum to research an issue I'm facing, I'd rather not have to sort through thousands of google results...

Doing research on the subject, it seems 5 seconds is an ideal setting and is a setting we're likely to use in the future.

The forums have been updated to this new setting for the past few days. I am marking this request as implemented and archiving it.
