MySQL 5.5 GA

Oracle is expected to launch the general-availability version of MySQL 5.5 during a webcast event on Wednesday.

Benchmark tests showed the release candidate gaining up to 1,500 percent performance gains for read-write operations and up to 500 percent on read-only operations when run on Windows, in contrast to MySQL 5.1. Linux performance grew up to 360 percent for read-writes and 200 percent for read-only, according to Oracle.

When can we expect this incorporated into cPanel?

When 5.1 came out, it was months before it was available in cpanel. Usually cpanel needs to thoroughly test the new version for bugs and compatibility issues before rolling out. 5.5 has some major changes from 5.1, like 5.0 to 5.1 so I wouldn't expect to see it in any stable release any time soon.

I'm anxiously looking forward to the new version for the much improved partitioning.

I think this will take few more months + mysql 5.5.x released until cpanel might also support it. It says that it's been filed with development , but no test has been carried on so far (my bad if i mistake but no 5.5.x source is visible on cPanel) -> Index of /mysqlinstall/
