Continuing with our requests for comments from NOC Partners, Hosting Providers, and cPanel users, we are asking for feedback regarding suggestions for improving the default email implementations of cPanel.
And this request we believe will make for safer and more secure environments, especially in light of the fact that most cPanel admins cannot be expected to be email experts, or realize the ramifications.
POP before SMTP is deprecated by most ISP's and Telcos' for many reasons, and we would like to petition that by default cPanel does not enable this, and instead use the more preferred method of SMTP authentication. While on the surface POP before SMTP may seem easier, it does create unusual support issues with some email clients, but more importantly POP before SMTP prevents new technology such as outbound rate limiters from being implemented conveniently.
