RFC1738 says subdomains cannot start with a number

Hi,

RFC1738 says subdomains cannot start with a number. The decision was made to follow RFC in this case. I realize this was not checked in cPanel v11.24.5, but it is currently checked for validity in 11.25. In short, the rejection of subdomains starting with a number is by design at this time due to rules in RFC1738. Thanks!

There should be an option to comply with this particular RFC or not in the tweak settings as this is causing issues for numerous clients.

We have also had a customer that requires a subdomain that starts with an numeral.

I had a read of the RFC, and is the part in question this (under section 3.1)?

The rightmost domain
label will never start with a digit, though, which
syntactically distinguishes all domain names from the IP
addresses.

If so, wouldn't the sub domain be the left most label?

Edit: From wikipedia:

The rightmost label conveys the top-level domain (for example, the address www.example.com has the top-level domain com).

As I suspected, since this thread was last updated we have begun supporting domains that begin with numbers. There is one remaining bug with case number 46383 where webdisk users encounter an issue when trying to login when their account is on such a domain. This is already in the final stages of development and will be in version 11.30 but may be backported to 11.28 - no guarantees on that though. As a result, I am closing and archiving this thread. Any future issues with creating domains like 1example.com should be treated as bugs rather than feature requests.
