Anyone familiar with installing a Ventrilo server?

I've read through the setup instructions on Ventrilos website. And I have a few questions to start.

1. Should the server be installed on the /root/ server or on a separate user account/domain?
2. Should the Ventrilo directory be created anywhere specific?

My preferred ventserver domain is ventrilo.fastsquad.org, but that depends on the answer to #1.
I've created a subdomain already on fastsquad.org.

Please bear with me as I'm very new to dedicated servers and *nix.

You can install it in your home directory, and try to run it as a user, not as root.
