Question Basic questions from a newb

I just set up an account (at ace-host.net) and I have a previously-registered domain name (at dyndns.org). I've configured the nameservers to point in the right direction.

Using Fantastico through cPanel, I've installed WordPress and phpBB2 (basically, I want my own blog and forum, and maybe down the road a few other pages as well).

If I go http://mydomain.com or http://www.mydomain.com I get the dreaded "The page cannot be displayed" page. I sort of expected that because I don't have any kind of index/main page set up yet.

However when I go to http://mydomain.com/blog or http://mydomain.com/forums (where I do have the packages set up), still nothing displays. Do I need to install other features to make these visible online? Something that controls content management (would that be php-Nuke)? Or are there just some settings that I need to turn on?

Also, what's the distinction between WHM and cPanel?

Where can I find the best tutorials to walk me through this? And I mean something simple: with lots of pictures and small, understanable words

    Any/all help is appreciated!

are you sure that your domain (ip address / nameserver) is set correctly?

if so, perhaps it propagation matter. and you need to wait for 24-48 hours for your domain propagate. after that you will able to access your site without any problem

Indeed, sounds like the dns either hasn't propagated or its setup incorrectly. Either way, contact your host for support.

If you wanted to post your domain and the name servers, perhaps we'd be willing to help as well.

Yep, that seems to be the case, looks like it's working properly now. Thanks all.

    Question

    So here's my next question:

When I got to my domain address, I see the following screen:

    Index of /
    Name Last modified Size Description
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Parent Directory 04-Apr-2005 08:24 -
    _private/ 02-Apr-2005 19:50 -
    blog/ 02-Apr-2005 20:23 -
    cgi-bin/ 03-Apr-2005 13:11 -
    forums/ 02-Apr-2005 20:13 -

    postinfo.html 02-Apr-2005 19:50 2k
    upload/ 03-Apr-2005 11:26 -

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do I mask this with a home page that users will see instead?

That's what I suspected -- I'll give it a shot when I get home from work. Thank you!
